We had the good fortune of connecting with Joann Kenyon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joann, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I believe in a world where we celebrate our failures more than we celebrate our successes. When I found Breathwork it helped me put the pieces together that we are perfect just the way we are and our adversities give us the greatest gift: to help others. I facilitate Breathwork with others to process where they are stuck in their lives so we can move WITH our challenges and process these complex emotions so we are seen and heard. We all have a message inside us that can transform the world but we have to process first. We find our inner light to make it out from hiding to freedom, embracing our true identities.
Breathe It Out’s movement works with your internal belief system through Breathwork designed to transform the way you view your trauma through neuroplasticity and science; community and love.
Alright, So what challenges have you faced as a business owner?
Breathe It Out was founded during the pandemic. So starting a business based on breathing during a respiratory pandemic… I was set up for challenges. However, I transitioned slowly out of my practice of Dental Hygiene as Breathwork was proving it’s success, and my body was telling me STOP as I was literally breaking my back of 20 years in the dental field.
I have had massive personal challenges since I started this business, including blowing out two ligaments in my knee requiring ACL reconstruction surgery, 18 months of recovery, which I am STILL recovering five months post op,
I have learned to slow down when life tells you to, and really enjoy what is in front of you. If you do not listen, your body will make itself heard in one way or another.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This has always been a tough call… because it’s not always what you would do, but who you would do it with. If I got together with one of my best friends, I would hit the dramamine and hit up Six Flags Magic Mountain. Always a favorite of mine along with Universal Studios. Griffith Park, Santa Monica Pier, Club Deep on Sunday nights. I love walking and people watching.
Really what I love to do with my best friends is pop some popcorn, snuggle up in our PJ’s, and watch epic movies and ponder life with deep real conversations. It’s not about the destination its about the journey.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest shoutout goes to my husband, who puts up with me and all my crazy ideas along the way for 12 years going strong. I adore my business coach who I couldn’t go without the mindset work and accountability as an entrepreneur and she has been with me the whole way Kimberly Letona. My Breathwork trainers David Elliott and Danielle Hering, who gave me that tools to get started on this amazing journey.
