Meet Like Tyrants | Band

We had the good fortune of connecting with Like Tyrants and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Like Tyrants, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
The members of the band are from a variety of different places and have lived in different states/cities throughout our lives. Like Tyrants actually started in California back in 2012 with Nick and eventually life happened and he ended up here in Cleveland and kind of restarted with new members to fill out the rest of the lineup. The rest of us are from or have ended up in the Cleveland area. All of our unique backgrounds and life experiences that have led us to being in this band definitely contribute to our sound and to the way that we approach the music that we create.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We all grew up listening to a ton of genres of Rock music from Emo, to Metal and everything in between. Our variety of influences helps drive the sound that comes out of the band and we’re constantly trying to push each other in new and unique directions creatively.
We’re currently excited for a very busy Spring/Summer as we gear up to release a string of singles, culminating in an EP over the summer. This is the first music we have released since our full length, “A Paramount Loss of Sound”, dropped last summer and we can’t wait for everyone to hear the direction that we are heading in. Along the way, there is really something for everyone as at times we lean into some heavier elements and others into our most melodic ones. The first of the new singles, “New Found Hell,” drops on March 10th and will be streaming everywhere that day.
We’ve learned quite a bit in the last year since releasing APLOS. We learned the true importance of a strong Social Media presence to ensure that our music is getting to the people that will enjoy it. With the band having originally started over 10 years ago, things were quite a bit different during that period. Streaming wasn’t close to what it is today and the model for delivering music has changed dramatically. We’ve had to learn little things along the way and definitely feel that we’re ready for what’s coming this year.
The most important thing that we would like people to know about our story is that everything that we do is rooted in an overwhelming passion for music. There is a lot that goes into a creative endeavor like this and it would be easy to get overwhelmed. We don’t ever question what we put in because we love Rock and Roll, plain and simple.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we had a friend or friends coming to visit in Cleveland, there are a ton of really cool places we would make sure to take them. One of the first spots would be the Harbor Inn, Clevelands oldest original dive bar and one of our favorite places to have drinks. We’d also make sure to show them some of the great restaurants in Cleveland like Fahrenheit, Barrio or Mabel’s. We would have to showcase some of the great craft beer spots in the area too like Brew Dog, Southern Tier, Market Garden, Collision Bend, etc. From there we’d catch a show at Agora, House of Blues, Musica or any of the other great local venues.
Even though we aren’t from LA, the band has performed there and originally started in California. It has been a while since we have been so we look forward to finding some great new spots ourselves when we visit next.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d like to shoutout all of the people who have supported this band throughout the years whether it be coming out to shows in the different places we have played, streaming any of our music, buying a shirt, or talking to us outside of a venue.
We also want to shoutout our families for supporting our passion for music. We all have normal day jobs and without the support of them, finding the time required to write, record and play shows would not be possible.
