Meet Anthony Canapi | California’s Gay Matchmaker and Love Expert

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Canapi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Born and raised in one of the best Metropolitan cities in the world, Los Angeles, I understand how hard dating as Gay Man in the city can be because I had to face it head on myself; being single for a number of years, dealing with the constant, endless swiping of the dating apps, growing more frustrated in my dating life, it affected my everyday life.
After years of matching Heterosexual Men and Women, whilst balancing my own dating life, to then utilizing a Gay Matchmaker myself, to then having a close friend of mine getting declined by a matchmaking firm due to his sexuality, I realized how hard it is for someone like myself to find love, but not only that, I questioned and asked myself, “how many other Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Men are in my position throughout the state of California?” Not only do you have Los Angeles, you have San Francisco, Palm Springs, San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Fresno, etc, what about all of these GBTQ+ men?

I launched my matchmaking business, Best Man Matchmaking, in 2022 exclusively for Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ Singles who are seeking a more authentic dating process that’s more valuable than any gay dating app you would download. I work as a Professional Matchmaker for single men who are seeking a long-term, committed relationship and are looking to be introduced to quality, caliber singles who are ready to settle. The thought process behind Best Man Matchmaking is that we understand the struggles and hardships Gay Dating can be and work with quality men who deserve to be matched with singles of quality caliber that seek the values and beliefs that align with their own because at the end of the day, they deserve love like anyone else.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Best Man Matchmaking is an old-school, personal matchmaking firm exclusively for Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ Men who are tired of the dating apps and are seeking a process that’s more authentic and of value. Best Man Matchmaking works with G, B, T, and Q+ Single Men who are seeking a long-term, committed relationship and are looking to be matched with quality, caliber singles who are ready to find their forever person. By utilizing a 2:1, in-person, offline matchmaking model, Best Man Matchmaking brings back the human element of dating for GBTQ+ Men.

What sets us apart from other Matchmaking Firms is Best Man Matchmaking is California’s only certified, LGBTQ+ owned matchmaking company based in Los Angeles, California, incorporated under the state laws of California, working exclusively for GBTQ+ singles, and founded by certified professional who was born and raised in California.

I have been matchmaking overall for the past nine (9) years, professional for four (4), and I am so proud of the number of singles I have connected, but more so the connections that have led to exclusive relationships and marriage.

It was not an easy journey to get to where I am today and it’s still not an easy journey- I had to put in long hours of work in order to get results I have today and as cliche as it sounds, hardwork does take time and dedication. I’m thankful for my tenacity and resiliency that continues to fuel my craft and seeing the lives of the thousands of gay singles I worked with, who after working with me got significant, positive results from my services and some even getting into exclusive relationships and marriages because of me, it makes all of the back end and behind the scenes work worth all of the endless nights and overtime hours.

I still face business challenges to this day, but when you have a dream or an ambition, you will get overwhelmed naturally, but when you look at the overall picture, it’s one baby step at a time to get to the goal. Great things take time and I know that my work is still ongoing, but I will continue to focus on my mission, which is helping LGBTQ+ singles find love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area and wanted me to show them the best time, I would take them to West Hollywood. According to visitwesthollywood.com, West Hollywood was the site of the world’s first permitted Pride parade in 1970. As the epicenter of LGBTQ culture in Southern California, West Hollywood is proud to take pride in the fact that nearly 40% of the population identifies as LGBTQ and vsitors can expect a safe, welcoming urban environment that was built on the needs and interests of the community.

In my opinion, West Hollywood has the best LGBTQ+ nightlife, with hot spots ranging from pulsing dance clubs to friendly neighborhood dive bars. They also have some of the most lavish hotels for your stay and there’s always something to do in WeHo.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A special shoutout that I would love to give is to my amazing parents. They are my biggest fans and number one supporters throughout my journey to becoming the person who I am today and onwards. Since day one, they always pushed me to strive for excellence and although at times, I may have been pushed to my limits, I knew they were pushing me because they didn’t want me to settle for average results. Because of this, it really allowed me to gain tenacity and resiliency and if I didn’t have these qualities, I guarantee you that I would not be in the position I’m at today. I’m forever grateful for the guidance and support they have provided me growing up and in return, I will continue to strive for nothing more but my best in my practice as a Professional Matchmaker and Dating Coach and will continue to make them proud.
