Meet Victoria Scott | Singer- Songwriter & Co- founder of The Blue Dolphins

We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Music brings people together. Me and my band, The Blue Dolphins, create community at live concerts and online. We like to create good vibes and good vibes are very good for the environment.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel really excited about the single we just released, it’s called Painting Box and it is a cover of Scottish Psychedelic Folk band, The Incredible String Band’s. They released the song in 1967 and its just a really charming existential song about love and paint.
I have several delights in life, but two of them are writing songs and playing live concerts. I just love the alchemy that happens at live events.
I think the thing that sets The Blue Dolphins apart is that we are serious about our songwriting but on stage we can be really sincere, then really funny and even argumentative, all in the space of about five minutes, so it’s kind of like couples’ therapy. Evidently our tribe finds that very entertaining!
I feel really proud that we have entertained a lot of people over the last eleven years and we have a solid fan base in Los Angeles and around the world, (created organically and one fan at a time). Also, that we have had some really solid support from DJ’s in the US and Spain, that we have played in several countries in coffee shops, theaters and football fields and released a lot of music with the support of our creative friends and families.
From time to time I get really tired, and I think what have we achieved? And then I look back at The Blue Dolphins catalogue, video’s, releases and I feel like I’ve been a part of something that is intrinsically valuable and that feels good.
One of the very important things I’ve learnt is that you’ve got to believe in yourself before anyone else does. I would like the world to know that The Blue Dolphins are soulful, authentic rebelliously fun and we want to give you a good time!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well if my best friend Sarah Stanford came to visit me from the UK finally (as she has promised), I would first drive her along Sunset Blvd from Mann’s Chinese Theater, Hollywood all the way to the meditation gardens at Lake Shrine on Sunset and PCH and this would give her a whole view of the city and its variations.
Then to Dreamland at Aviator Nation in Malibu, which is a really great new west side music venue. We saw a fantastically intimate set with Daniel Lanois a few weeks ago which was like being at House Concert but not… awesome and they also host some fantastic Reggae nights with Santa Davies on the drums.
I would take her for a walk around old Town Pasadena which I find to be one of the prettiest areas of Los Angeles, architecturally speaking. Then a stop at La Brea Tar Pits. I absolutely love that museum, it’s such a fantastic contrast to see the history of dinosaurs in the middle of Hollywood, it keeps everything in perspective.
The view from the top of Laurel Canyon at night is magnificent and quite breath taking to show the size of this metropolis, followed by a midnight burger at Mel’s Diner.
A morning hike on Zuma Beach, with a nap to sleep off the jet lag then to the open mic at the Maui Sugar Mill Saloon, a screening in Beverly Hills, bites and vino at R & D on Montana. We’d need about three weeks! I love this city, there are so many colorful people here and so many fun, culturally and spiritually uplifting things to do!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
100%!! I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my partner in love and The Blue Dolphins, Alfonso G. Rodenas. We are a good match because our skills compliment each other but honestly I wouldn’t have completed as many recordings as I have without Alfonso. I suffer from perfectionism and it just takes me ages to finish anything. Alfonso just dives in and gets the job done, it’s great to witness. Opposites attract! In the book department I will mention ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ by Paramahansa Yogananda. Its a fantastic story and sort of a spiritual equivalent to the beatnik novel ‘On the Road’ by Jack Kerouac. I have deepened my meditation practice with the techniques of Paramahansa Yogananda, and for that I am ever grateful.
