Meet Chris Bredesen | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Bredesen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The risk vs reward ratio is a measure of the potential profit to potential loss for a given investment or project, I think daily about risk (and also about reward) and try to make my best educated decisions from past investments and daily life lessons I have learned. It is true that the more you risk, the more you can be rewarded, but it is also true that the more knowledge and experience you gain from past endeavors, then more you can lessen the risk but also keep the high level reward.
This “risk theory” is also applicable to life in general.
In Surfing, taking off on that big wave vs paddling to safety. If you go for that big wave it can be very risky and if you succeed the reward will be high, but if you are experienced and have taken off on many big waves, well you have lessened the risk and kept the reward.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a restaurant group that runs the following locations in the South Bay Beach Cities: Captain Kidds Fish Market, Riviera Mexican Grill, Primo Italia, R10 and The Rockefellers (Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan Beach). I think what sets us apart from others is our ability to keep our locations family and local oriented. We have taken over numerous local legendary restaurants (some that have been in business since the 1970’s) and continue to run them the way that locals appreciate. The way we do the accounting, marketing, building improvements, etc may be different, but what the customer sees is still the same, and I think they appreciate that and it keeps our loyal customers coming back for over 45 years. Our group has had successes and we have also had failures. There is nothing harder than opening a new location and then having to watch all you hard work vanish when the doors are shut, it can feel like a punch to the stomach. But with failures you can step back and try to understand what worked and what did not and make those changes for the next location.
We have been lucky enough to have 7 very successful locations at the moment, with more on the way. And we will continue to improve the ones we have and learn from our mistakes (and our successes) for future locations.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My perfect week long itinerary for visiting the South Bay.
My Perfect Weekday – Walk to coffee in the Riviera Village, Redondo Beach (our Rockefeller location has a coffee shop open daily) then take a long stroll down the esplanade to the Redondo Pier overlooking the Pacific Ocean and watch the dolphins and surfers.
While at the Redondo Pier / King Harbor you can do water activities (stand up paddle, rent a small boat, etc.) or you can go on a fishing expedition or whale watching tour. And then OF COURSE you have to get the Freshest Seafood in the South Bay at Captain Kidds Fish Market
End the day at Primo Italia with authentic Italian food and wine with live music.
My perfect Weekend – Rent a bike and go up and down the entire bike path from Redondo Beach to Manhattan Beach, stopping at a few of the local watering holes for some day drinks (Tonys on the Pier for a Fire Chief, Naja’s Place for a beer (I think they have over 100 different types!), Hermosa Pier for cocktail and people watch, then down to Shellbacks for a Fanta Shot at the Manhattan Beach Pier). And then after your 2 hour nap, go to an LAFC soccer game in downtown LA (amazing team, atmosphere and stadium, and sit near the home team supporters, you will be amazed!)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to all my employees and team members who have decided to wake up each day and make our businesses better. Having people that have a passion for what they do and wanting to improve daily, makes it much easier to run these businesses. It also makes it more fun! When we all work with the same goals in mind, we all increase our chances to succeed.
