We had the good fortune of connecting with A’Noelle Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi A’Noelle, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
This question resonates heavily with me. I often think about the times I was at my absolute lowest and I contemplated quitting. When I get to that low point, there’s always this fire that still burns in me to keep going. I’ve felt like quitting numerous times. Oftentimes, the circumstances seem like there is no other option but to quit. However, that decision to quit means killing a dream. To me, in terms of accomplishing goals and dreams, quitting means destroying any other option for success. That answer, whether to quit or keep going, is up to the individual for sure. With that said, I’ve never believed in having a Plan B unless it supports Plan A.
At the time of this interview, I consider myself to be in a valley right now. I also know that this time of my life won’t last forever. I had made a firm decision to continue my journey as a multi-hyphenate because I feel deep inside that tough times don’t last forever. With the grace of God, I have overcome so many difficult times. I consistently remind myself how far I’ve come.
I firmly believe that I have a higher calling in my life and I have to answer that call. I remember my great-grandmother who dreamt of being a screenwriter but could never fulfill that dream. I remember that even through adversity, my ancestors survived, making it possible for me to be here. Therefore, I must keep going.
I rest, but I don’t quit. Even when I feel like I should. That feeling comes and goes. Remaining consistent and steadfast has helped me continue my journey in Los Angeles. The biggest thing for me is having supportive friends and family.
When I am feeling like all is lost, my friends and family fuel me. I know not everyone may have that same support system, so I offer you all reading this to follow me on my socials. I often post positive messages about remaining focused and following your dreams.
So the question, of how to know whether to keep going or to give up, is a simple answer. When you are feeling at your lowest point, listen to the still small voice inside of you that informs you about your next step. Even if it’s to rest, do just that.
When you have given all that you have to give and you still feel that fire to keep going, then keep going. That is your answer.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a multi-hyphenate who is passionate about creating stories centered on women of color, especially Black Women. My brand is Dope Black Women, and there are so many incredible stories of Black Women in history that we are not aware of. I want to highlight those stories.
My company, The Fearless Actress Company, LLC, is a dream come true. I am able to partner with great people and organizations and create unique stories and support existing businesses by curating content.
Recently, I worked alongside the Seattle production company, Babsek Productions, and Moxy Productions to produce the documentary feature, Bad Ass Women Doing Kick Ass Shit. This project highlights the former Senator of Washington, Mona Das, and 9 women of color who campaigned for their respective political seats.
Being a filmmaker is definitely not an easy path. I learned that consistency beats motivation in every area of life. Everything begins with imagination. Therefore, there is no evidence of a project existing until the project is finished. The toughest part about being a filmmaker is remaining steadfast in your vision. There will be days when things don’t go as planned, but having strong faith and being consistent will overpower any obstacle.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Los Angeles weather! There are so many things to do and I am a foodie! One of my favorite things to eat is sushi. I love i8 Sushi located in Silver Lake. The sushi is served in a pizza box! So good. I also love Cafe’ Laurent in Culver City. They have pancakes as big as your face. Love it!
