We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Franz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, how do you think about risk?
I don’t think anything worthwhile was ever achieved without taking risks, honestly. It is such an essential attitude to break the ranks or even out of the box you were, most likely, put in. Whether it was society, your culture or even your own family – we are all guilty of playing it safe most of the time.
The secret is that life begins to get interesting once you start taking big steps. It does not come easy to me, but it got easier the more risks I took. And I would not be where I am today without following my gut.
Finding my own path and voice made me truly happy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Let’s face it: we are all originals. Art will always be special when it comes from you. I’m easily excited, so I will enjoy a beautiful person, location, lighting, moment as much as taking photos or writing a script. It is all about context. I’m painfully curious – about everything. And have always loved understanding the world. So, I guess I’m proud of not being jaded.
I have a lot of interests, so I’ve done many different things in my life. Currently, I’m focused on my photography and scriptwriting. Both fulfills me in different ways. The challenge about writing is to stay motivated. Especially when things are not happening for a while…
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a great question because she was just here, actually! LOL. Los Angeles has so much to offer, it is hard to answer that. I love the food trucks. Venice is all cleaned up again, so we had a wonderful time there. Malibu has my heart. Malibu Creek is my favorite hiking area.
Other than that: Café Gratitude and all the amazing sushi places we have to offer!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I count myself lucky to have incredible friends, mentors and family that have always been very supportive of me. It goes both ways. We are social creatures and love is all that matters. A special shoutout to my mother who believes dreams are never too far-fetched. And all of my friends that seem to be as crazy about reinvention, growth and creativity as me.
