We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Overberger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I don’t think anyone picks being a artist or creative career. It’s the old “it picks you”. There are hundreds of better way to support yourself. But, I guess that would depend on how you define “support”. Some things are larger than our work. Some work is a connection to everything we don’t understand. The universe, the vibration. I feel like creativity is a connection to source there for if I stay connected to everything bigger than us or me I am “supported” but, supported on a different level. I think it is important for us to then bring balance to that. A career is a job we do that makes us some kind of currency that we trade for food, clothing and shelter. That is the balance. Making sure you are fed and the landlord is not at the door and being creative and receive and spread the message of the Universe. And it is easier to receive and share the universal information if we are not starving,

What should our readers know about your business?
At this point what sets me apart is that I have been doing it for 18 years. I teach a lot in a park. It’s actually very strange if you think about it or look at it from a distance. How does someone show up for 18 years to a park and teach yoga to people that show up? It’s outside of society as Patty Smith would say. But that’s where it needs to be. I am outside of the system. I am here with and for the people. I got here today by showing up all the time. I can’t say that enough. Show up. You can over come challenges by using time. All things start, all things end, even challenges. Over a long enough time line you can see with clarity. That’s not easy but it’s a reality. Tomorrow, todays challenges will be a funny story you tell people at party’s. That story and that Obstacle may very well be the thing that made you a success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start at Cheech’s Pizza for mozzarella sticks. Then we would hike one of the many trails that are in Griffith Park. It’s amazing to live in a part of the world that has the City and then a giant nature area. It’s the best of both worlds. If it’s a Sunday we will end the night at The Dresden listening to Lisa Crawley perform and if I am lucky she will ask me to sit in for a couple guitar solos.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The latest book to really support me is The Obstacle Is the Way by Ryan Holiday. It is truly amazing how much a book can impact your life. This is the book I have ready twice and am currently waving like a flag, I even went out an got his other two books. Thats how much it impacted me. .
