We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Canapi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I created Best Man Matchmaking March of 2022 for Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer+ Men to find real, authentic love.
Nowadays, gay men would go out to the gay bars and clubs, but would not interact with one another; there are instances occurring where two gay men would be in the exact same room, but communicate over the datings apps such as Grindr or Growlr and not make the first, in-person move.
Through multiple different studies such as The New York Times and GardaWorld, gay dating apps are starting to become a danger and threat towards gay singles as other individuals seek malicious intentions when utilizing these dating apps, thus causing a shift when it comes to the dating app’s main purposes.
When hire me as your Personal Gay Matchmaker, I take my clients on a personal matchmaking journey: I take them out for dinner, I get my laptop out, I get to learn about my client’s knotty-gritty regarding who they are and what they’re looking for, but more important, what are there main values and beliefs that they stand for as a person and how can I help them as their Matchmaker. Depending on the matchmaking membership they invest in, they also get personalized date coaching and counseling with myself, a professional photoshoot, an image consultation, and more date introductions with after the date feedback calls.
In our world today, Gay Men should not have to struggle to find authentic love, nor deal with the constant, endless swiping of dating apps. At Best Man Matchmaking, we understand the struggles and hardships Gay Dating can be and work with quality men who deserve to be matched with the upper echelon of gay singles that seek the values and beliefs that align with their own. Overall, they deserve real, authentic love!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a Love Expert for almost a decade, I found that the clientele I worked with who identify as LGBTQ+ required additional dating guidance compared to my Heterosexual clientele I was matchmaking and coaching.
Through date coaching, I discovered that all of my LGBTQ+ clients developed personal trauma based on a life event regardless of when or how they came to their sexuality and whether or not it was a positive or negative experience. It affected them to a point where they created forms of insecurities and/or trauma to drown out the triggers.
I can relate emotionally and psychologically to how they felt then and now as I face those exact oppressions and privileges as an out and proud gay man in his mid-twenties.
Because of this, it drives me to do what I love to do, why I do this kind of work, and what sets me apart from other Matchmakers, Dating Coaches, and Love Experts.
What excites me is the future that Best Man Matchmaking can impact for my LGBTQ+ community not only here in Los Angeles, but Nationally, big goal being Internationally- down the line, I would love to build my business up and provide more Matchmaking and Coaching options and even start a Counseling division as I’m going back to school for my Masters in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in LGBT Affirmative Psychology. I would love to be able to service more cities and even go International- the possibility can become a reality and I can’t wait to see how the future plays out.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
West Hollywood 1000%. In my opinion, West Hollywood has the best LGBTQ+ nightlife, with hot spots ranging from pulsing dance clubs to friendly neighborhood dive bars. They also have some of the most lavish hotels for your stay and there’s always something to do in WeHo.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shoutout to my best friend (he knows who he is).
We met through a mutual friend of ours and ever since that encounter, he and I became closer and closer and it led us to being best friends now since 2017. It’s funny because we do have differing viewpoints in life, but despite that, we don’t let it affect our friendship.
I know that I can go to him for any form of support and vice versa, and he truly cares about me personally, he wants what is best for me in life and that’s something in which I’m grateful for. In L.A., making friends in a city as big as Los Angeles, it can be daunting and challenging, especially when it comes to forging a real connection, and with him, we have a platonic relationship that I can’t compare to anyone else.
