Meet Sloane Skylar | Songwriter/Producer/Music Marketer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sloane Skylar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sloane, why did you pursue a creative career?
I started pursuing music when I was just 12 years old, sharing covers and original songs on YouTube that eventually gained me a following of 10,000+ subscribers. Growing up in the digital age, I quickly learned how to promote my music online and built a strong online presence as a result. However, as I began to attract the attention of industry professionals, I realized that not all of them had my best interests at heart. These experiences taught me the importance of being genuine and inspired me to become someone in the industry who could help other artists navigate the sometimes murky waters of the music business.
With this in mind, I pursued a degree in Music Business from Berklee College of Music and graduated in 2018, leading me to my current role as a digital marketing director for A-list artists. I love being able to use my digital expertise to support fellow creatives and help them succeed. I’m grateful to be a part of both ends of the industry and am dedicated to making a positive impact on the music industry!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a singer, songwriter, and producer, I’m passionate about pushing musical boundaries and blending together different genres to create something truly unique. I draw inspiration from a variety of musical styles, including R&B, electronic, and pop music, to create my own sound. I’m super excited about the release of my upcoming EP ‘California’ on May 26th. I’m really proud of the project as a whole and the new direction my music is going!
One of the things that motivates me as a female producer is the fact that only 3% of music producers are women. While this statistic can be disheartening at times, it also motivates me to work even harder and stand out in a male-dominated industry. I believe that diversity in the music industry is important, and I’m proud to be part of a growing movement of female producers who are making their mark on the industry.
Ultimately, my goal is to create music that connects with people on a deep level and inspires them to feel something. Whether it’s through the lyrics, the melody, or the overall vibe of a track, I want my music to have an impact and make a difference in people’s lives.
As an artist who is open about my queer identity, I feel a responsibility to be a positive role model for young people who may be struggling to come to terms with their own identity. By being open about who I am and the journey I’ve been on, I hope to show young people that it’s okay to be themselves and to embrace their authentic selves. Whether it’s through my music or simply by being visible and proud, I want to make a difference in the lives of young people who are going through similar struggles.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely take them to a show, love The Fonda, The Troubador, El Rey, or The Roxy. For fun, Melrose Trading Post or The Getty Museum (it’s really pretty). As for food, some of my favorite spots are Blue Jam Cafe, Jitlada, Toi on Sunset, and Gracias Madre!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out everyone who was a part of making my upcoming self produced EP ‘California’ out May 26th: Bryan Shortell (mixing/mastering), Guido Celentano (guitar, bass), Aaron Bishop (bass), Ben Koppenjan (bass), Zamm Kenoby (Drums), Syncere (featured artist), and Gergo Bille (trumpet).
