We had the good fortune of connecting with Ieshia Edgerton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ieshia, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a artistic/creative career because I felt it was important to pursue my purpose and passion for mending hearts. My floral arrangements are the very important distraction of life events both good and bad. The lightup of smiles on the faces of the recipients are immeasurable. I not only get great gratification from what i am doing but i work with flowers knowing i am making a difference.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well I had a long standing career in higher education for over 20 years. A sudden medical life event changed my whole perspective on living and helped me make a decision to change my path. I have to credit an amazing individual for his consistency cheering me on from the sidelines encouraging the power of entrepreneurship he’s been on this same path and worked for the city of San Francisco before taking his creative ideas to another level.

What set’s me apart from other florist I think is my color wheel I love anything vibrant I love using any texture I create my arrangements like i curate my daily outfits big and bold is my moto. The other thing that I feel sets me apart is my eagerness to be instructional and teach floral design classes to k-12 students.

I am also tapping into the mental health aspect of today’s society and looking to give more support to our communities. Be on the lookout for what’s to come!.

I got to where I am at by having an amazing tribe small but mighty. I will be completely transparent and tell you it is not easy and there are good days and bad days.. I am still working through challenges and being a small business you can be vulnerable to the overwhelming majority of running a business and it being successful.

I would like the world to know that Rooted Floral was a idea a dream turned to reality came true. I had 6 years to retire from my job but, I had a growing passion for projects that allowed me to be creative around floral design. Over the years i was entrenched in a variety of events with party planning such as graduations, weddings and baby showers never ever did I imagine I’d be working within the industry in a professional way.

I am so grateful to be apart of this movement and to exercise my creativeness for large corporate sponsored events such as Outside Lands – Hendricks Gin, San Francisco tulip festival, Obama portraits

It always seems impossible until it’s

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend visited me for a week

We would definitely spend most of our time in Oakland and San Francisco. We would stay at the intercontinental Hotel and Moxy Hotel

Monday we would go to yoga or meditation have breakfast at the kaffee across the street from the shop and prepare for the weekly deliveries

Tuesday we will walk the presidio get coffee or tea and a small bite then collect our products for the week we also will go to Oeste for Taco Tuesday

Wednesday we would head over to the flower market for a tour. After a long days work we would take the ferry to San Francisco and eat at fisherman’s warf to eat

Thursday the week is winding down we having oatmeal from Starbucks and we at the shop bright and early processing floral orders by nights end we headed to boiling crab.

On Friday we check out breakfast at Tiffany’s then we head over the bay bridge to Oakland to start our day. Night end we would hit up Cana to dine and listen to Caribbean music.

Saturday Oakland has an amazing farmer’s market at splash pad we’d indulge in fresh juices before we head over to grand lake kitchen on MacArthur. Go about our day fulfilling orders and by closing we are headed to our reservation at Thang Long in San Francisco, CA

Sunday RFD is usually closed unless we are getting ready for an event so with that being said we are headed over to M2 for brunch. There after I have tickets to the Oakland zoo that day as well.

Monday my Bestie my girl is headed home!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out a Oakland automotive business, a San Francisco for the culture connoisseur, a bay area multi business owner, my amazing daughters, mom and my boo crew and fellow floral friends.
