Meet Jasper Typical | Musician & Visual Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasper Typical and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasper, how do you think about risk?
I reckon that in the past, I’d often tackle various scenarios with a pessimistic mindset, which ultimately kept me from seizing some truly amazing chances, simply because my apprehension drowned out my enthusiasm. As time went on, I discovered that embracing risks is more or less a 25% concern and 75% go-for-it attitude.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been driven by a passion for creation, which underlies all my ventures, whether I realize it or not. I’ve been blessed with a nurturing circle that fosters my creative interests, so I’ve always embraced exploring various artistic forms. At first, I gravitated towards visual arts like drawing and photography, but music consistently played a role in my life as well. Ultimately, I delved into music-making, heavily inspired by my parents.
During my last two years of high school, I found quite a bit of success in my artistic pursuits. As I connected with numerous fellow artists online, my journey took me from my hometown of Portland, Oregon, to the vibrant city of Los Angeles. My aim was to carve out a truly distinctive career, and despite the obstacles, it’s been an exhilarating adventure filled with amazing people and experiences. One of the most unforgettable moments from the past six months was performing multiple times at the iconic Viper Room.
To tackle challenges, I wholeheartedly dedicate myself to an initial concept, though following through is easier said than done. It largely depends on my ability to seek assistance from others and maintain a strong support system. It took me quite some time to recognize this need and commit to it. In the end, I’d say it’s still an ongoing learning process, but I’m pleased to be developing the necessary skills.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A few places come to mind, for sure. Firstly, I’d recommend Bollywood Grill – it’s got some of the most amazing authentic Indian cuisine in all of Los Angeles. If you’re an animal lover, Echo Bark Inc. is the spot to go; I send all my people there, and they’re incredibly kind and caring. Now, let me think of one more (I’m not tryna gatekeep or anything, promise). I’d have to say Secret Headquarters comic book shop, and they’re about to open a new location in Atwater!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to respectfully honor the memory of the late Matt Zimmerman, who held a special place in my heart as not only the father of my best friend, but also as a dear friend to my own dad. I’m certain he’s up there somewhere, grinning down at us. Matt’s inventive and creative methods in songwriting have profoundly influenced me as a person, and I find myself reflecting on his lasting impact each and every day.
