We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessika Grewe Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessika, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“What cannot be said will be wept.” Sappho Holding onto emotions does us no good.
Not voicing displeasure, pleasure, joy, or heartache will leak out of us in some form, whether the literal tears Sappho suggests, or in resentment, stress related illness, or cracks in our relationship foundations. This quote resonates with me due to the fact that communication is key in life, business, art, everything. As an introvert who has to put on an extrovert’s face to market her art, Sappho’s quote hit home. I am always likely to bottle up my feelings, only allowing them to express themselves through my art. Yet, oftentimes, solid, literal spoken communication is necessary.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
From an early age, raised in a Catholic household, I was taught I could only behave and present myself in a certain way. As an adult who has come to her majority in the form of an artist expressing herself through prose and photography, I have learned to embrace who and what I am. I am a multi-genre author, currently with three books published: books one and two in my adult contemporary fantasy series, Another Beast’s Skin, and my latest, Stars Like Gasoline, a romantic suspense, which just released in April. My books are many-faceted, like me, and show nuances in my life, and personality one may not glean from a simple face to face meeting with me. I love to tell tales of people who feel they are interlopers in their own lives, never quite fitting in, yet finding themselves intrinsic to some greater cause. Through my art, photography and writing mainly, I illustrate the shadowy side of happiness where darkness can be a comfort and sometimes the light is a bit too much.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first hydrate them with green juices from Movita. Then we would take a hike through Towsley Canyon. I would defiantly indulge in fries and Prosecco at The Sunset in Malibu, so my bestie could sit by the pacific with me and hear me drone on about how a scene in A Braiding of Darkness took place in that restaurant. Plus, it’s really a great spot.I feel like Disneyland has to come into this. It’s kind of a given. Also, because Bestie is a bibliophile like me, we would hit the great indie book shops in SoCal; The Ripped Bodice, Village Well, The Last Bookstore LA, Libby’s, and Annabelle’s Bookclub LA (in Studio City!). We would probably get an oat milk matcha latte at Groundworks coffee, then hit the Observatory, followed by a couple Le Bowls from Zinque. Honestly, it would be food and books.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Southern California Bulldog Rescue. Without them, I wouldn’t have my squishy sidekick, Coco, who has gotten me trough working six books and a whole lot of in between!
