We had the good fortune of connecting with Thyme Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thyme, how do you think about risk?
No risk. No reward. Simple as that. I’ve done many things in my life that involve risk and breaking through personal and social boundaries. And I’ve been kind, but firm. I’ve had the good fortune to be driven and goal oriented, even if the goal posts move in the discovery process. And with time and dedication, I always improve. Writing the MacGuffin Book Series in the focus of my life now and I’m thrilled with the process.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, I’m always hands on. I know this about myself. Meaning my mind and hands must be working or tasking for my highest vibrations. I think being present and 100% in this time here and now, whatever I am doing is best. Thank goodness I can compartmentalize. Creating the MacGuffin character based on my life has been tremendous for me. Working with FEMA, something I thoroughly enjoyed, had purpose and gave back a depth of appreciation and empowerment hard to match. I pull from life experiences and weave these golden threads daily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A piping hot blueberry mushroom Four Sigmatic coffee and walk on Carmel Beach at dawn. There’s a clarity to waking early that is unmatched, and conversations once the blood is pumping, fantastic. Plus meeting some of the most interesting animal lovers out with their dogs is pretty cool too. Characters. Then either a fast drive down the coast to Deejens for breakfast or gym or workout on wooden stairs. Cement hurts the joints.
Or better yet, a hike around Point Lobos!!! My friend Tracy has been the Development Director for over ten years and every time I walk the property, I learn something new.
Lunch at Nepenthe or Ventana, hands down. Maybe a jaunt down to Pfeiffer Beach or a secret spot, which seem to be harder to find these days.
Visiting the Pheonix Book Store or Henry Miller Library is always a delight.
As is getting into the Esalen Baths to read your book. Not an easy excursion.
Lastly, a light dinner at any of the many delicious establishments in Carmel and Monterey. My personal favorites this month are Rio Grill, Kona in the Del Monte Shopping Center, and Mission Ranch on the patio.
Rio: Lemon Buerre Blanc Crab Cakes by Chefs Lallo, Caba and Luis.
Kona: Try the Macadamian Alaskan Halibut and Lemon Meringue Bread Pudding by Chef Chris and Pistol Pete.
Mission Ranch: Top Sirloin. It’s traditional and the managers Lotte and Suzanne are the best!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My fantastic journey. There are many people from adolescence in Big Sur through university, DayTime television and now writing the MacGuffin Series that I continually recognize. Thankfully, they know who they are. First, my mother for choosing to raise three knotty haired kids as a single parent in Big Sur. Heidi Elizabeth MacGurrin. Second, all the guests of Lolly and Bill Fassett. Nepenthe restaurant was their creation and for us children, cousins and all, our stage to explore and learn about the world. In college, I was asked to be in a SDSU calendar that led me to Black Gold, a national publication and exposure to the possibility of acting. Charlie Lapson, the casting director that introduced me to Tommy Page which led to a tour opening for New Kids On The Block. And Anthony Barnao and Ann Marie Johnson who encouraged my confidence to act. And Nowhere director Gregg Araki, taking a chance on a day-time TV star. There are many, but the best are yet to come.
