We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan W. Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susan W., why did you pursue a creative career?
From a very young age I was seeking knowledge and was interested in writing, drawing, and all things creative and artistic. At the age of 5, I discovered my passion for books and I built my first personal library. To this very day, I have my own library filled with books I love and cherish. As a teenager I decided I wanted to become an artist and my dad bought everything I needed. I found I was very good with abstract art. But I discovered I wasn’t good at drawing or painting the human form which is what I really wanted. As a freshman in high school I became the editor of our school newspaper. So, I wrote the editor’s column and “hired” the entire staff of reporters and writers. I found that I loved journalism, and this propelled me to work with our local radio station highlighting our high school events that were featured in the school paper. During this time, I also entered a national essay writing competition, which I subsequently won, and this made me begin thinking that this was a career that I truly wanted.

Later, once in college I was a journalism major and became a contributing writer for the “Red and Black” the college paper for the University of Georgia. After college, I was offered a position as an international journalist stationed in the Middle East. I love the region, people, and culture so much that I married my chief bodyguard. I lived in Iran for a year after my contract expired so my future husband and I could get married. After our wedding we returned the US. Upon my return to the US, I took a position with a local radio station contributing to the news broadcast and wrote 90% of all commercial spots that aired for advertisers. While with the station, I wrote an ad that garnered a national award.

While living in Atlanta, I also began modeling and acting for print and television ads for “Underground Atlanta” and this inspired me to pursue a modeling career in LA for a time. While in LA I became actively involved in the entertainment industry working with filmmakers, producers, and other talent.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As founder and President of SWB Entertainment, Inc my role is to oversee all aspects of the daily activities of the corporation and I also serve as writer and producer for most of our projects. I feel that in this industry, what truly sets me apart is the integrity, inclusion of all people from all walks of like, and strong work ethic and loyalty to those in my circle. I am incredibly excited about the development of “Black Caesar Pirate King” (TM) as the projects moves forward to its next phase in production. I attribute my success to my hard-work and loyalty to those with whom I work. Nothing comes easy in this life, especially in this industry, but if you persevere you can hurdle the obstacles and keep moving forward and never giving up or giving in. The most important lesson I have learned along the way, is be very careful who you choose to align, partner, and work with. I’m very proud of this current project “Black Caesar Pirate King” (TM) and I’m very thrilled to have written the screenplay. The research, the history, and the story are fascinating and this is a story that needs to be told.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, I would take them to my favorite Thai restaurant, Thai By Trio. Then we would hit DTLA and then to Seal Beach to whale watch. Visiting Mount Saint Mary’s University’s beautiful campus is a must. Then no trip would be complete without a tour of the historic and haunted “Queen Mary.” And rounding out the trip we would end at Santa Monica Pier.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give some credit and a shoutout to Matt Williams and his company Future Artists Entertainment, LTD of the United Kingdom. I met Matt in 2015, we were both seeking funding for projects and we became fast friends. Early on we were very like-minded on how we wanted to build our careers in the entertainment industry. We continued to work together via WhatsApp. Finally, in 2017 we were able to meet in person and it was an amazing experience. This big bear of a man picked me and whirled me around. We met again for the second time in February of 2023. We have such a connection personally and with our families and the synergy we have when working on a project is unparalleled. Currently, my major project, “Black Caesar Pirate King” (TM), is in development with Matt and his company for funding and within the next month we should see the project move forward and the screenplay find its way to the screen.
