We had the good fortune of connecting with Maryna Moisieieva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maryna, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision and the most difficult time of my life came to me at the same moment in February 2022. I’m from Ukraine and I spent my whole life there. My family, my career, my business, everything was there, in Kyiv city. I have been working as a dancer with the top Ukrainian artist – MONATIK – for more than 8 years, performing on tours around the world, starring in music videos, I also had my own dance studio – DIVAS PLACE. Life was going great! But then the war of russia against Ukraine started and I had to save my life. When you wake up at 5 am to the horrible sounds of explosion and the building is shaking you’re in shock and you have not that much time to decide what to do next and you can’t even analyse how your life is going to change depending on your decision. But what I knew was that since that moment nothing was going to be the same. So I put the most necessary things in my travel bag, left my home and never got back yet. First I stayed with my friends in another part of the country. It was really dangerous to stay in Kyiv at that moment and I understood that the entertainment industry won’t work at the same level for a long time. And on the other hand I visited Los Angeles many times before and I was always wondering what I would achieve in the industry if I lived there. So yes I decided to move to the US. That was the game changing moment for me – I decided to move to Los Angeles and build my career, name, brand and family here. To start everything from the beginning is , for real, the most difficult decision in my life. But here I am now – living in LA , teaching my regular classes called “DIVAS HEELS” and already performed with Marques Houston at I Love RnB Festival. I’m really thankful to be here and to keep doing what I love and push towards my dreams!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Nothing that I have in my life came easy to me. I’m a hard worker and everything I’ve earned I made by myself. I was born in a small city – Chernihiv. And my first achievement was that I got a scholarship in University just with my knowledge. With no friend, relatives and connections I moved to the big unknown city – Kyiv and made it know my name. First I started working as a choreographer in the top dance studio at that moment. Next I joined a team of a really talented artist – MONATIK. I truly believed in his art and worked with him alongside for 9 years. I’m really proud to be a part of his team for such a long time and share all stages together from tiny ones to stadium tours. In 2018 I started my dance intensives named “DIVAS Academy”. In 2020 I opened my own dance studio “DIVAS PLACE” and now I’m running it remotely from LA. My dance studio is about bringing confidence, felinity and empowerment through dance. And I
‘m really happy and proud of our clients and their achievements so far. So yes I have some I can be proud of. But February of 2022 brought huge changes in lives of every Ukrainian. As for me it brought me here in LA to start my new chapter.

I’m also teaching here – I have my own classes called ‘DIVAS HEELS LA’ I believe in some future they will grow to “DIVAS PLACE LA”. Last week I performed at I Love RnB Festival in Long Beach with an iconic artist – Marques Houston and I also had a chance to work with a great choreographer – Shane Sparks. Here in LA I’m happy to continue to do my favorite things – perform at the stage, creating choreography for artists and work with people to see their personal growth at my classes. I’m always saying – dance is much much more than just moves. It combines so many processes: thinking, physical activity, art, self expression, coordination , patience, health and self love and also support of the community. I’m absolutely sure that people who dance and take dance classes have absolutely different level of thinking and reflexing of life. So I highly recommend all people to have enough patience and desire to come to dance classes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m pretty new to LA and I’m still discovering the city. But I have some of my favorite spots so far. I adore Universal Studios – I will definitely take my friend to have fun there! Malibu Lagoon beach – to have a day near the ocean, they also have great plaza with different shops and restaurants. I’m pretty sure my friend is a dancer so she/he will take my class and some other classes from the greatest choreographers in North Hollywood. And after we’ll eat sushi at Kahuna Tiki and coffee in Republic of Pie. They have artists who perform live in evening so you can catch nice vibes and inspiration there. And we should also go to have some drinks and dance in Shoo Shoo Baby in Downtown. To jump on a concert in Hollywood Bowl and also catch some sport game in Crypto Arena will be one more sort of fun. Hike and watch planets after sunset at Griffiths Observatory will be nice ending of this fun journey.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
During last 9 years I have been working with a great Ukrainian artist – MONATIK. And he is not only talented artist – he is very kind human being who supported me since the moment we met. I’m really grateful for all the advices he gave me, the friendship, support and all ups and downs that we went through with his team. He is a warrior but also a very deep soul who always inspired me with the way of his thinking and managing everything. And his songs – that’s something special, they always touch people’s hearts. He’s for real a genius who lives in our time and I’m proud to know him.
