We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTonya “LT” Swann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTonya “LT”, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has been a long, progressive, journey of self mastery and defining my own success.

I went from being a super-student, 4.0+, AP classes and excessive extracurricular resume building, to burning out in 11th from overworking myself, to double majoring in college, to leaving to pursue dance while balancing a family.

During the pandemic I realized that resume lines meant nothing compared to the legacy you leave in people’s hearts with service and being a good person. I renounced capitalistic hustle culture and embraced radical rest and time with my family. I was running a spiritual business in the creative world, and pouring exclusively into my authentic passions rather than running myself ragged for things that just look good on paper.

Work life balance to me is knowing your goals and doors will always be open. I learned that:

– Even if you rest, even if you take a detour, your opportunities always belong to you.
– Rest, and even depression or creative block is preparation for your next plane of creative consciousness.
– There are download eras of your life and upload eras, honor both.
– Balance doesn’t always mean a straight line across. Balance can also mean a competent combo of ups and downs.
– Balance is not the destination, it’s the the dance in between.
– Balance is adjustment, not perfection.
– You are not what you do or achieve, you just are…

My distinguishing factor as a creative I believe is my capacity to be a vessel, creatively, spiritually, and interpersonally.

As a dancer, I become the music and move from an honest, inspired place.

As a content strategist, I help my clients clear blocks, open their creative channels, unlock their authentic passions + god-given gifts, and run alongside them in the direction of their goals.

As an author, I turn my skin inside-out, lead with vulnerability, and channel feelings we all feel into words with accompanying sensations our souls can all understand.

Because I focus on vessel-ship, and because none of it “belongs to me” I can do anything and my creative tap is infinite and unlimited.

It was not easy at all, but it was still simple in hindsight. My mind was the key to everything. My heart was already set on what I wanted to accomplish, becoming a gladiator for my own mental health in my mind allowed my body and actions to follow.

The challenges have, of course, not disappeared but my fear has. Knowing things will always be ok. Your next big break is a when, not an if. And holding the frequency of my highest desires as a magnetic approach vs a chasing mentality.

I want my legacy, story, and brand to reflect my courage in the face of doubt and adversity, a long trail of service, love, dream-building, and angel investments, and to go down in history as a dream warrior. Who fought to close the gaps, and slay the obstacles to success in other’s lives and most importantly my own as the illest example.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a nature girl. And California has some of the best places to connect with nature, people watch, and overhear bizarre conversations out of context lol. I would take my friend to the Eaton Canyon Waterfall, For food & drinks, Rocco’s! in Glendale or Salsa & Beer (not all locations created equally…)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to recognize my mom LaShell Swann, a prolific Los Angeles women’s and girl’s basketball coach, a mechanic, a barber, a contractor, a Jill of all trades if you will. I would not have any of the success I have without her love, support, inspiring example, and sacrifice.
