We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin McDonald and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, is there something you believe many others might not?
I was told “Never use your own money” If I had waited for some big venture capitalist to fund KINDri, I never would’ve started my first project. Fortunately, I’ve had some “angel’ friends help me to keep a roof over the business, but if you have a dream and you are able to eke out enough to throw up that shingle. Don’t wait!

What should our readers know about your business?

KINDri skincare was, not unlike many other indie beauty brands, born in my kitchen, but grew up in my facial room in Los Angeles where I slowly introduced my formulas to my clients over the span of twenty years. Early on, I discovered the remarkable blend-ability and benefits of organic cactus oil, and with the addition of pure apple stem cells, it became KINDri’s signature base ingredient. KINDri is still small batch-made and hand-poured by a small but dedicated staff. Beyond the stellar efficacy of KINDri products, we are most proud of our commitment to cruelty-free, vegan components that we resource and test in-studio on humans. only. Our hope is that there would never be a time when any animal is compromised anywhere in any way for the sake of human physical beauty.

Many times I’m told, “Skincare throughout the world is a saturated, competitive business.” It goes in one ear and out the other. I love a quote by the actress Ruth Gordon who at 88 said, “Don’t you ever – I mean ever – face the facts.” I’m 68 now and live by this!

I created KINDri to yes, address your skincare issues, but also, I’ve incorporated the science of aromatherapy. I want people to love the ritual of taking care of their skin. I want people to look forward to reaching for that skin moisturizing, balancing bottle or jar of goodness because they know it’s going to elevate their spirit at the same time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For an early morning stroll and meditation, The Lake Shrine, Pacific Palisades. Light lunch at Gielina in Venice, for their Japanese Eggplant and Vegan Pizza
Humble Abode Spa on La Cienega for massage with Byron and scalp treatment with Angela
Groundlings Theatre Improv
Late-night dinner at The Umbrella on Melrose Ave
