We had the good fortune of connecting with Vonte Marquiss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vonte, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always had a passion for art. From playing 7 instruments in band, to singing in the choir to creating dance teams at every school I attended. I knew I was meant to pursue some form of art. Dance officially stole my heart in High School and its been that ever since. I chose to specifically focus and pursue dance because just something about the release of emotions through listening to music & movement gratified me in an indescribable way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There has been nothing, and I mean nothing that has stepped in the middle of something I said I wanted to do and doing exactly that. I am a dreamer, as I’m sure most of us are. But when I dream its more than just a ‘dream’ it feels, real. I turn those dreams into goals and create a pathway that I believe is going to get me directly there with minimal road blocks and little to no traffic. Sounds ridiculous right? No, I know that there will be road blocks and traffic, thats inevitable. I don’t like to think about the things I can’t change so I have more energy to put into the things I know I can.

Adding that mindset into my professional career it made my journey a lot easier. In the industry it’s like a game of chess, you have to be very strategic with every move, you can plan how you WANT things to go but being prepared for anything is what is going to keep you from becoming discouraged. Every job I audition for no matter the if i’m well rounded in that style or good at picking up that Choreographers movement, they already have a look of exactly who they want, I may not be that look. Do I know that? No but I planned as much as I could yet some things just aren’t meant to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA has a bit of everything so there’s so much to do. For brunch day one we’d go to The Breakfast Club, their french toast are godly! Then maybe you Universal, they just opened the mario exhibit I think she’ll really enjoy that. That takes all day so after getting some food from taco stand by my house we’d call it a day. Some honorable mentionable places we’d also go that week;
Food; We Jammin’, Roscoes, Fixins to name a few.
Visit; Getty Museum, Griffith Park, Santa Monica Beach.
Night life; Revel in Hollywood, The Chapel in Weho, Proabition DTLA

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My little big sister Shelly. One of the most resilient and fearless women I know. There’s nothing she lets get in between her and her goals, shes always been one of my biggest inspirations.
