We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorelei Marcell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lorelei, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Looking back, I did give this all a lot of thought, yet it was so ingrained in who I wanted to become and the goals I want to achieve for myself that it felt like a very easy decision to do this full time. Building the brand itself has been a work in progress! I feel like with each release I get closer and closer to the image I want to portray moving forward. The older I get the more it changes as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Great questions! I think a lot about what sets me apart from others, and I want to believe it’s my voice and my writing, but also the critic in me. Everything I make and everything I do I look at so objectively, my goal in making music is to beat everything I’ve done before. I want my music to touch people in the same ways my favorite songs touched me growing up. This is a reason I am so drawn to anthemic music, ballads, and RnB. As of now, I am most proud of my most recent single “I will always love your ghost”, I feel like it checks these boxes to some degree. As far as challenges, social media has been a really big hurdle since starting. I’ve learned to focus in on the things that matter most such as the musicianship in those moments, and except help from my team and peers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to Runyon Canyon park. It’s a really nice local ‘hiking’ spot, or LA hiking I should say. For coffee I would take them to the coffee shop Verve, its my favorite one! I go there all the time. One of my favorite restaurants in the city is called Night + Market song, and this takeout Mexican spot near my apartment called Gardens of Taxco! Both are a must when I have people visiting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many amazing people that I trust so much surrounding me in my career. The one thing that comes to mind that I’ve never touched on though, is a book. The book is Bittersweet by Susan Cain. I read this book initially because I listened to her speak about it on a podcast. That 45 min segment really resonated with me so much that I went and bought it, (if you know me you know that’s a rare occurrence haha.) This book helped morph my perspective on my album “Bittersweet stages” and gave inside into how I wanted to brand the project, and what I wanted to say. I wrote the songs on that project for certain reasons and with certain meaning behind it, yet in reading this book I was able to open my eyes to a more existential outlook on my songwriting.
