We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosa Fortys and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started Lupe Coyote, I wanted to be a source for artist that couldn’t afford expensive prints. being an artist myself, I hated having to order prints and not knowing if I would like the quality. sometimes it was right, most times it was not. So I started with a printer, and when a friend complimented my prints and asked where had I gotten them, I simply responded “I printed them”.
What should our readers know about your business?
The brand Lupe Coyote came from inspiration of my middle name and my dog a white Malinois that gets often confused for a wolf type of dog. Lupe Coyote is a printing service in the NYC area. We aim to get the order right at an affordable price. Lupe Coyote is excited for a future to be able to ship nation wide and keep good customer service, that is really important to us. Surprisingly enough I have enjoyed every step of creating Lupe Coyote, as a Artist and running that business, Lupe Coyote came easy, most of my network of art friends have turned customers and its makes me proud to know that they are happy with quality. Lessons I have learned along the way is don’t be shy on promoting yourself, you will be surprised as to who is actually looking for someone they trust with their merch and art and would love to do it locally.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I have friends over from out of state I always want to touch down the basics on day 1 I like to take them to Hudson Yards, times square, and definitely eat some good ramen at Naruto Ramen. For drinking I definitely like to hit up the bars in Greenwich village. On day two a walk through a museum or a botanical garden, my favorite places to go to are MoMA and the Bronx Botanical garden. By day four and five I would also invite them to hang out with my friends over at Scott Bleu Studios, or go to a art show to support my artists friends in the city or Brooklyn, on day six I’d take my friends to brunch over at Metro Diner on the upper west side, and walk through the pier at riverside park, then take it easy, with rest at my place and a home cooked dinner. by the last day I like to usually take it easy and and spend time indoors chatting it up eating good food and drinks on my patio.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friend Bleu Pablo is really the one to give me fuel for Lupe Coyote, he was my first customer.
