Meet Simone Alexia | Mixed Media Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Alexia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simone, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
We live many lives within one lifetime. Creating art has had it’s ebbs and flows as the creative process is always fluid. It has to do with the how your relationships develop, the places you live, or the amount of time you have in a day to think and reflect about your experiences. There’s so many elements to life that create a sort of “collage” of your story that’s always being built upon.
Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with creativity without any time to get to a canvas. There’s other chapters where I have plenty of free time and a blank canvas feels overwhelming. I think the true balance to strike is to find beauty and creativity in all the aspects of your life, and to search for the meaning behind all things even if it’s only meaningful to yourself. Then there’s a sort of magic moment that happens when your life experiences, time and creativity line up perfectly and the artwork comes through so naturally. This to me is the divine moment where I feel I’ve produced something truly meaningful.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art and emotional healing directly correlate with each other. Every personal art piece I produce is a reflection of a very human experience, and an attempt to capture and understand the mirror that my life experiences are holding up to me. When I start a painting I only have a mere feeling of what I’m trying to understand about myself and the world. By the time a painting is finished I can really look at my depiction of a complex emotion with clarity. I’ve painted subjects relating to learning how to be content in stillness when it doesn’t feel like progress, or trying to understand what mortality means in the big picture of existence. I’m most proud of my personal growth and the ability to take painful emotions and experiences and transform them into something beautiful. When someone looks at one of my paintings and sees themselves in it, it’s the highest achievement for me.
Building my art business has been challenging. Learning how to price my own work, or figuring out a marketing strategy feels so contrast to the work itself. It’s also been challenging to pace myself so that my creativity doesn’t suffer for the sake of just producing more work. However along the way I’ve met some great supporters and collectors of my work that push me to keep going, and build my business further,
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much beauty everywhere in the desert. It’s been a truly breathtaking place to live. Some of my favorite spots to visit are: – The Joshua Tree National Park
– Spaghetti Western Saloon
– Giant Rock
– Whitewater Preserve
– The Tiny Pony Tavern
– La Matadora Art Gallery
– Rainbow Stew Art Gallery and Gift Shop
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank anyone who has every purchased my work, shared intimate details about their lives so that I could produce meaningful and heartfelt commissions, or shared my work with others. There have been far too many people who have supported my work to name individually but they have provided much encouragement and trust in my process.
I’d also like to thank my partner Ryan Mussen for providing a space of love, encouragement and autonomy to paint my best work.
