Meet Miranda Schry | Professional Dancer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Miranda Schry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miranda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In my opinion, anyone who chooses to pursue a career in the arts is a risk-taker. To deliberately go down a path that is notorious for its uncertainty is taking a risk greater than most individuals will ever dare to take. We as artists never really know when that next paycheck is coming, whether or not we will get consistent work, or when a possible career-ending injury may occur. While most people would immediately shy away from a career like this, I decided to run head-first into it. Despite all obstacles that came my way, choosing the “safe” route was never for me. Throughout my life, there were always people doubting me left and right, encouraging me to give up my dream of dancing professionally and settle down in my home town to live a life of stability instead. I knew deep in my heart that route wasn’t for me, and I am so glad I listened to my gut and took that risk! In November of 2022 I finally made the move to Los Angeles and have been happier than ever pursuing my dreams. Without taking that risk, I have no idea what my life would look like right now – I am so grateful that I took that chance and cannot wait to see how far I go!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing that sets me apart from others is my level of grit and determination. I began dancing at the young age of three and knew by the time I was 13 that I wanted to pursue a professional career. Fast forward to 2021, I graduated from Point Park University where I received a BFA in Dance, a B.S. in Sports, Arts, and Entertainment Management, and was a member of the Track and Field team. Immediately following my college graduation, I unfortunately had to undergo back-to-back hip surgeries, where I had three repairs done on each hip. The recovery process for this was something I could have never anticipated, and wound up lasting a total of 15 months. This was undoubtedly the hardest moment of my entire life, and there definitely were days where I could have easily given up; yet I made the choice every single day to continue pushing onward. I learned that no matter what I was going through, I had to do what seemed like the hardest thing possible in that moment and CHOOSE to keep fighting in order to create a life for myself that I have always dreamt of having. Now that I am on the other side of that mountain, I am so immensely proud of myself and know that this is just the beginning for me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anytime a friend comes to visit, hiking at Griffith Park is a must! I absolutely love the views and everyone loves getting a good view of the Hollywood sign. I would also take them to Castaway Burbank for an incredible brunch (complete with bottomless mimosas, of course), and Pink Taco on Sunset Boulevard for dinner! In between our meals, we would spend some time either shopping up and down Melrose or walking around the Americana at Brand. Although these are just a few of my favorite places to go, you truly will never run out of possibilities in Los Angeles!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe several people endless thanks for all they have done to help get me where I am today. First and foremost, I have immense gratitude for my mother and father, Andrea and Andy, who have always gone above and beyond to do whatever it takes to support me and give me the life I have always dreamt of. Additionally, my siblings Cambyl and Preston have consistently encouraged me to follow my heart and have stood by me through my highest of highs and lowest of lows. Lastly, there are not enough words to describe how appreciative I am for my boyfriend, Zach. He is the most loving, supportive person I have ever known and I am so blessed to have him by my side throughout every step of my journey. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!
