Meet CC Oronoz | Full Spectrum Doula

We had the good fortune of connecting with CC Oronoz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi CC, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work/life balance has changed drastically over time. I am the primary caregiver of my children and I work for myself so it is not easy dividing up my time. As I sit here writing this one of my children is hanging off of me! Lol. So while I am able to make my own hours to fit my needs as a parent, it is hard to still find time to devote to my business and my children.
It’s definitely never balanced! It’s never 50/50, it’s always 80/20 or 70/30.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I support people through the spectrum of reproductive health( “full spectrum”. I support people through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, loss, miscarriage and abortion. I think what sets me apart from others is that in the area I live in, Santa Clarita Valley, there aren’t many full spectrum doulas like me. So I am proud to be able to provide these services in my community. I try to bring tradition to my work as well. My family has been in the states for many generations now and through my work as a doula, I have been able to reclaim traditions from my family’s Mexican heritage. Going back to these traditions, helps to form my support and practice. Birthing my two children, and the support of my family, has gotten me to where I am today. I decided to pursue birthwork because of the amazing experiences I had with my births and I wanted to help people to have a wondrous experience too. It definitely has not been easy! Starting a business is tough. I am a one person show here. I do everything myself. Luckily there is a great birthworker community here in the SCV and I have some awesome birthworker friends to lean in on when I need support. I have learned to try to always have a plan in place, to find a network of people you can go to when you need help, and to just try to be your own self. Don’t try to be something you’re not. The right people will find you!
I want the world to know that support is out there for pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, loss and abortion. It isn’t some “fancy” or “bourgeois” thing only some people get because it’s popular. This kind of support is something everyone deserves and needs in order to thrive. It’s for everyone, not just a select few.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let’s see….well this depends on if we stay in Santa Clarita, or go out to Los Angeles. Lol. If we stayed in the Santa Clarita valley, we would check out the hiking spots, placerita canyon, towsley canyon, these are beautiful hikes. If they’re adventurous we would go to magic mountain and/or hurricane harbor.
We would eat Mexican food and drink strong margaritas outside the patio at The Alamo. We would eat frozen yogurt at Menchie’s or ice cream at C&A Creamery,

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are two doulas who inspired me to become a doula. They were at my births- Erica Richardson
And
Roe Marbella.
I have learned so much from so many great birth workers! @Postpartum healing lodge-Raeanne Madison, Montse Olmos-@mujer_dela_tierra, @indigemama Panquetzani, @Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings Sabia wade and JB, @flordelavidamiriamavalos Miri Avalos, and Ana Paula @apmarkel.
That was a lot! 😆
