We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Eaton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, why did you pursue a creative career?
I feel like the life of an artist chooses you: My dad is a singer-songwriter and my grandparents were opera singers so I was born into this musical life and I think it chose me!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been very dedicated to my own music, sound and my playing and I am really proud that I have stuck to my guns. It is difficult to follow your soul and in many ways, you do not get rewarded for authenticity. So, this is one thing that sets me apart: I have not compromised. I have many albums worth of original music and the music really should speak for itself. Music is magic to me and I am devoted to it like a religion . There is always more to learn and I am here for it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would have to start by taking them to two of the best views of the city; Griffith Observatory and The Getty Museum. I have a favorite hike off of Laurel Canyon and then my favorite coffee in the valley, M street Coffee. Of course we would have to go to Santa Monica and Malibu for a nice swim. While in Malibu, The Getty Villa is a nice hang and we would stop by my favorite coffee shop on the Westside; Caffe Luxxe. I also love Santa Barbara and the mission there is amazing as well as La Super Rica, and the beach. Lastly, we’d have to go to my favorite venues; The Greek Theater, The Troubadour, Hotel Cafe and Hollywood Bowl to see some live music!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to recognize my friend David Crosby who put a lot of faith into me as a musician. He shined a new light on me as an artist and side-musician and our friendship was really special to me. I have an enormous list of people who have encouraged me and supported my artistic efforts and I am extremely grateful. I strive to be as encouraging as possible to the people around me because I believe what goes around comes around!
