We had the good fortune of connecting with Bethany Holmes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bethany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Starting my own business was a decision that came from a combination of factors and personal traits. First and foremost, I have always been an independent and determined individual. I knew I wanted a life that was larger than the one I grew up with, and I believed that achieving that meant pursuing something I loved and not being restricted by working for someone else.

From a young age, I had a passion for design and style. This passion manifested in various ways. My grandmother worked in fashion for over 50 years and always dressed me to the 9s when I was young. In high school I was voted”best dressed” and “best purse collection”. While these seem very like frivolous accolades now, they were indicators of my deep-rooted interests and creative inclinations.

After finishing college, I initially wanted to work in the fashion industry. However, I felt intimidated by it, and I lacked the confidence to pursue it at the time. Moreover, I became increasingly aware of the excessive consumerism prevalent in the fashion world, which didn’t align with my values.

As I matured and gained more clarity about my purpose, I realized that I wanted to make a positive impact on people’s lives. Style became a means through which I could help individuals feel better about themselves. By assisting them in finding clothing that boosts their confidence and organizing their closets to reduce stress and chaos, I could facilitate a sense of order and positivity in their daily lives.

Ultimately, combining my passion for design and style with a desire to make a difference in people’s lives led me to start my own business. It allowed me to break free from the confines of working for others and follow a path that aligns with my values and aspirations.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
New York City has held a special place in my heart since I was a child, even before I had the chance to visit. I always knew that it was the place where I wanted to live and grow and expand. I knew it would challenge me and take me to my edges. Whenever my friends come to visit, it brings me immense joy because I get to share with them the vibrant energy and inspiring spots that fill me with passion, motivation, and a sense of expansiveness.

Amidst the fast-moving pace of New York City, I find my own calm and move at a rhythm that suits me and my wellbeing.

When my friends are in town, I love taking them to my favorite pilates studios, such as Nofar Method, New York Pilates, and Goodday Pilates, where we can rejuvenate our bodies and minds. It is my favorite form of movement and something that is important to my daily routine. Then, a must is a visit to Matchaful, my go-to Matcha shop. The Matcha and homemade treats are divine.

Exploring the vibrant neighborhoods of Soho and Nolita is always fun, where we can enjoy shopping and afterwards have a lunch at Balthazar or La Mercerie. I love a french cuisine.

Walking or jogging along the Westside highway is always a favorite of mine. Its a slice of fresh air and nature. I love to explore West Village’s quaint streets and shops. Sant Ambroeus is perfect to sit outside and enjoy an app and mocktail. For dinner, I love treating my friends to the mouthwatering burgers and salads at American Bar, a spot that never disappoints.

The Upper East Side and along Fifth Avenue are perfect destinations for shopping, and a visit to Central Park offers an oasis of greenery and relaxation in the heart of the city. Catching a Broadway show is always an exciting way to cap off a day filled with exploration.

As you can probably tell, my love for New York City knows no bounds, and I could go on and on about the incredible experiences it offers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout my life, I’ve been fortunate to have many mentors who have supported me in various ways. First and foremost, my parents and my husband have been my rocks, providing constant support throughout my personal growth journey, with all its ups and downs. Additionally, I have a circle of friends who serve as mentors and expanders for me. They challenge me, hold space for me, and generously share their knowledge, for which I am truly grateful.

Two practices have been instrumental in connecting me to my intuition and true self: meditation and journaling. These daily practices have helped me gain clarity and insight, allowing me to navigate life with greater wisdom and authenticity.

One particular book that profoundly impacted my life and mindset is “Becoming Supernatural” by Joe Dispenza. In 2015, I experienced a health trauma that led to emergency brain surgery. It was a transformative moment, but it also brought along significant PTSD. Reading this book was a turning point that shifted my entire being and empowered me to regain control of my life. It opened new avenues of healing and growth, setting me on a path to reclaim my well-being and purpose.
It was shortly after immersing myself in Joe Dispenza’s teachings and studying his work that I gathered the courage to start my own business, embracing my passions and dreams wholeheartedly.
