We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanel Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chanel, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I believe in furthering your education in your specific field. Adding more services that fit under your business that makes sense, that’s beneficial to your clientele is key. Networking and creating new ways to make your business stand out is very important, and that comes with thinking outside of the box and knowing people.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Take Care Doula Services is deeply rooted in Ancestry. We believe your health is wealth. The energy you consume through conversation, oxygen, nutrition, the time you spend with nature plays a huge part in the way you as a person define your character. Our mission is to disrupt tradition and help you find your true roots to find your divine self. We prepare specific plans and routines curated just for the client. We are firm believers in healthy lifestyles, proper nutrition, and we have a focus on what’s great for your body before and after pregnancy. I always had a passion to help women during labor. I saw vivid dreams all the time of what I would be doing very young. I enjoy creating space for women, and especially now that I am a mother I understand the value of community a lot more. We need each other. Our children need each other. I recently added waxing services for women wanting labor prep, or getting ready for date night, or vacations, I want TCDS to be a one stop shop when it comes to getting a doula, needing a sitter, needing personal care, community events, and so much more. It was not easy, because I just wanted my own but didn’t know how to properly navigate the business side of everything- I still don’t, but it’s a lot better now, with research, mentors, and a business coach. I never gave up, It may sound cliche, but I’m happy doing what I am most passionate about and glad I didn’t give up. I’m just putting my faith in God, and reaching out to the people who I know will support me and my ideas to help bring them to fruition. I am the brand, I have no employees so it get’s hard navigating a business, and life and trying to have a social life so I don’t get burnt out, its a challenge, but if i stay intentional within the assignment it will work itself out at the end, so before i panic about something not going my way, I remember the intentions, and I meditate and envision what I want and I work towards it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my Doula/Midwife community. I started training with most of them back in 2017 and we are still on this journey together and now in Midwifery school together. It’s great to have a community of trusted individuals that understand the route and can help navigate when needed. The journey to fulfill your aspirations always comes with detours, frustration, and many emotions, but if its a dream that you can’t stop seeing that means your meant to be where you are, and I have had many moments throughout navigating adulthood, motherhood, relationships with clients, platonic, or romantic you need a group of friends or colleagues to feel comfortable & vulnerable with to share space, and talk through your feelings, because someone else may need to hear your story, or you may need to hear theirs to help you get though your next phase. I am very appreciative to my clan and my mentor who has known me since High school and who is very involved in my life today.
