Meet Jason Soudah | Music Composer / Songwriter / Producer / Engineer / Editor / Vocalist / Eye-wear Fanatic!

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Soudah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Honestly because since I can remember, this is what I felt I had to do, in my heart and in my self as a whole. Being a musician is who I am, I can’t separate what my work is from who I am and what I am, and being driven towards the goal of being a working, creating musician keeps pushing me forward.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From as far back as I can remember, probably since the age of 4 or 5, I have been a musician, and been pursuing my love of creating music and collaborating with others – I honestly can’t distinguish that part of me from the rest of me. Music is integral to my personality and feels as vital to me as espresso!
In this pursuit, my curiosity in how music is created, written, arranged, recorded, edited, mixed and mastered, as well as the business side of things has fueled me along the way, picking up as much as I could in all disciplines in order to be able to do as much for myself, or be as much service to others in making their music as possible.
I know that being a “Jack of all trades” is often seen as a negative, but it has honestly helped me maintain a career and evolve it – to be able to use this set of skills and passion for doing so. I believe this is something that makes me stand out. Of course others can do multiple roles well too, but I’m as excited by and passionate about all of it – I’ve been called a “Swiss army knife.”
There have definitely been challenges, currently the writers and actors strikes, and the effects of the pandemic and lockdowns, which slowed and stopped a lot of production and post production, so thankfully I was able to do some work albeit a lot less for a while, especially after I completed an intensive course in Mastering by Streaky Mastering – Streaky has been mastering for close to three decades so him sharing his knowledge, techniques, and guidance has allowed me to build my own mastering business, which is the fastest growing part of my workload – clients are typically really really happy with my work, which I tailor specifically to the project, the media/intended use, and the client/s taste.
Another facet to my business which has grown specifically since the pandemic has been Music Editing, where I have worked alongside some music editors and also been THE Music Editor on, most recently, a wonderful film coming out soon called “Popular Theory” (directed by Ali Scher) for composer Jordan Seigel.
As far as songwriting and composing, I recently co-wrote and produced an EP intended for use in trailers/advertising alongside a very exciting and powerful female artist which will be released soon on a hotly-anticipated new label – the first single coming September 1st! And on my composing side, I was kindly invited by composer Jessica Rose Weiss to co-compose the score for forthcoming movie “The Kill Room” (directed by Nicol Paone, starring Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson) which I can’t wait for you all to see and hear.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would love to show them the LA stuff that makes this place special to me. The hikes. The lesser-frequented beaches. The best tacos (Escuela is one of my favorites). The recording studios – would love to show them round my favorites (or at least the outsides!) as so much history and energy here – Remote Control Productions of course, Westlake Studios (Studio D!), Oceanway, East West, and still do some touristy stuff as well like going on a movie studio tour – Warner Bros and / or Universal. The food – Jon & Vinny’s. The bars – Jones Cafe (and its food – incredible pasta and of course their famous Apple Pie). As a vegetarian and sushi lover I’ve been curious to try the new Vegan sushi places that have “sashimi” made from tapioca and my wife took me there for my last birthday and it was actually very delicious and a wonderful texture as well! The place we went is in West LA and is called Kusaki. Highly recommend! Also love cars so the Petersen Museum would be on the list! And the Grammy museum! So much to see!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am very thankful that everyone I’ve ever worked with has been supportive and usually become a friend as well, and I’ve learned from every single experience.
