Meet Lorey Zlotnick | Founder & Lead Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorey Zlotnick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorey, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Being part of an incredible community comprised of floral designers and artisans is incredibly rewarding. A common misperception is that it is easy to arrange plants or florals; here to tell you designing is only just the tip of what is required to run a floral business.
This industry is very physical and not for the faint of heart. It requires both physical and mental prowess to run. You must consistently find creative solutions for clients, have a keen eye for buying, a good head for business, and a heap of patience.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
L8bloomers was born after years of being asked by friends and family to help with floral centerpieces for large gatherings and events. When it came time to do my own celebration for my son, I wanted the tables to feel more masculine and explored succulents combined with crystals as a solution.
What I didn’t expect was how amazing I felt being wrist-deep in the dirt for hours, it was a blissful combination of hands-on sculpting and design; and even more exciting was the response I received from my guests who kept encouraging me to bring my creations to the markets long after my event was finished.
Shortly afterwards, I lost my role as a senior marketing and brand executive and wanted to fill in the gap with a passion project. I took a leap and started showing my work at local farmers markets and large scale flea markets …the rest is history.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since 2016, I have been immersed into the local Southern California farmers market scene with L8Bloomers.
The markets have an undeniable vibe and have become my weekend escape. Filled with great food, music, and artists, Southern California hosts some of the best outdoor festivals and farmers markets around; these are some of my favorite places to bring friends and families when they visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Success takes a village and my local business relies on a community. When I began showing at various farmers markets, it became clear this was my core village. The weekly interactions with farmers, fellow artisans, and all of the local regulars who come to shop each week inspire me, support my creativity, and keep my heart full.
In order to pull off a farmers market, it also takes a village of industry partners and I am so lucky to have also built an incredible foundation of sub- communities to help keep my business running. From the growers, the vintage dealers, wholesale flower markets, farmers market and estate sale managers, to the various suppliers and vendors, these are all critical relationships and touch points to a successful process.
