We had the good fortune of connecting with Maryam Myika Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maryam Myika, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most crucial factor behind my brands’ success is the understanding that you cannot work toward success alone. I realized very early that I am a big picture thinker who needs a team to execute my vision. Once I came to that realization, it caused me to accept help in all forms. I actively sought out a team that could help me achieve my various goals, and therefore the success of the brand was inevitable. Secondarily, another factor behind the success of my brand is clear communication with my audience. My audience shows up for me time after time because there is a need to be filled. We offer them lessons, antidotes, a safe space of community, and support to be themselves. When we communicate entirely who we are and what we do, our audience shows up in their full authentic selves. As a writer/actor who creates for myself and others, what my most quantitative takeaway for success is listening to learn. Listening is underrated and the most useful tool toward success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I began my career as a multi-hyphenate artist, displaying my skill sets in acting for Broadway, television, and film. Later, I honed my talent to become a screenwriter, where I’ve been able to pivot my expertise to write the characters I want to see live on screen. While on my journey, my personal life to a significant turn — giving birth to my daughter and losing my husband all in the same year caused me to level up my skills once again. Now, I am all these things and the founder of the North of 40 podcast, which also has a new online community companion. This community and the podcast are designed for women who are either tracking toward their fourth decade or forty and above to come together, find themselves, share ideas, and learn how to soul-shift when life hands you curveballs. At 40 years old, I hit a major life milestone that shifted my entire soul, giving me a new purpose. I have now fused my art and my mastery of reinvention to help others find their true calling and use their voice to free themselves from inauthentic realities. North of 40 is where you can begin your journey to take your life’s lows and turn them into triumphant highs. A real union of art and rigors of a robust life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The city is endless with possibilities, so for a week-long trip, we’d start with my favorite thing to do, a day trip to the Olympic spa for a day of pool dipping, massages, hot steam room, and self-love. Then lunch at SohoHouseWarehouse. This members-only club that gives me the joys of comfort food and a great times. Next, we’d head to the Hollywood Bowl for an evening concert. A picnic-style amphitheater with iconic views allows and for festive BYOB styled fun. Another one of my favorite spots a must-see and do is a hike at Fryman Canyon. Followed by a pick me up lemonade from the famous Lemonade in Studio City. Window shopping on 3rd street in the Melrose district is fun, and let’s not forget a trip to the Farmer’s Market at the Grove.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shout out to the great Ivana Chubbuck. She has single-handedly brought me back to life, time and time again.
