We had the good fortune of connecting with Evelia Isabel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evelia Isabel, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I have so many, but the ones I’ve been repeating to myself lately are:

“It’s only a thought, and a thought can be changed.”
I’m the worst overthinker. I’m always in my head, sometimes thinking negatively about myself or about things that make me sad, which doesn’t help anyone. So I like to remind myself of this quote, which I always repeat whenever I start thinking about things that upset me, and it always helps! You need to remind yourself that those are only your thoughts, and you can change those negative thoughts to something positive. I promise it will change things for you, too!

“It’s never too late!”
I’ve been repeating this one to myself recently because I’ve been thinking a lot about all the things I want to accomplish and haven’t had the courage to pursue, but I have to remind myself that it’s never too late. You need to stop complaining about not accomplishing certain goals and start acting on it. The more you wait, the longer it takes to happen.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always loved being creative, and creativity in general. I think it’s one of the things I enjoy the most; it just makes me really happy. I think my creativity has definitely expanded here in LA. I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many talented people, that it just pushes you to do the same. Then there’s music. I can’t say enough about it; it’s just healing. I love it so much because it has helped me through so many rough moments in my life and still does. Sometimes it feels like it’s the only thing I can rely on. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always looked up to songwriters and musicians for sharing their stories and being so creative along the way, and I’ve always wanted to do the same.

I think most people who know me are fully aware of my passion for music. I would like to think that someday, I can help others through music, as other artists have helped me, by sharing my own experiences. I think it’s one of the bravest things you can do, and I’m in the process of doing that myself. It’s really scary, but in the best way possible. It’s a good feeling, knowing that your lyrics can have such a profound effect on someone.

In terms of my blog, I’ve always enjoyed discovering new music/artists and sharing it with my friends and family. I remember back in the MySpace era, I loved jumping from one profile to another to see what songs everyone had on their page. I would always end up on a stranger’s page, and I would always come back with new music to add to my iTunes.

My goal has always been not only to help musicians put their music out there, but also to hopefully show someone their new favorite band or song. I’ve always appreciated people sharing music with me; it’s like my love language, so I like to do the same for others.

I’ve also started shifting focus from the blog and started pursuing some of my other endeavors, which also includes music photography. I still continue to go to A LOT of concerts, where I always take photos and share on my blog’s Instagram page. And as I mentioned before, I’ve been working on creative projects, which also involves taking photos of my artists’ friends, for either their music or their gigs.

With all life experiences, there’s almost always life lessons. I think for me, and especially with this blog, I’ve learned a lot about persistence and taking risks. If I wouldn’t have taken the risk of continuing to expand the blog, I would’ve never had the experiences I’ve had the last 10 years (wow I can’t believe it’s been a decade!), which include, among many others, living in LA and meeting all of the great artists I have been fortunate to encounter and that just inspire me to continue to do what I love!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so much to do here in LA, so I would definitely be making all sorts of plans, starting off with making some reservations for the week at some of my favorite LA restaurants, because yes I’m a foodie. I love trying all sorts of restaurants, and I do have my go-tos here, whether that’s Italian (Jon & Vinny’s [love their meatballs and gem lettuce salad], Il Pastaio [truffle pasta], Elephante [whipped eggplant and branzino], or Uovo [yellowtail crudo and carbonara]), Japanese (Sugarfish, Izakaya Osen, or Kazu Nori), French (Monsieur Marcel for some oysters and escargots), and leaving the best for last, Mexican (Leo’s Tacos Truck, Javier’s, Casita del Campo), specifically my favorite taco trucks in the city.

I would also plan a beach day, drive over to Malibu, and spend the day there soaking up the sun. Then close to sunset, head over to either Malibu Seafood or the Reel Inn for some delicious and fresh seafood, post-beach day. I might also plan a day trip to Santa Barbara (if there’s enough time) since it’s also nice to get out of the city every once in a while, and I love checking out their wineries there.

We would definitely be making a stop in Silver Lake and check out some of their coffee shops and bars (including but not limited to, Bar Stella, Bar Flores or 4100 Bar). I love any sort of citrusy Mezcal cocktail which Bar Stella and Bar Flores never disappoint, and the vibes are just on point.

And if there’s anything I love the most about this city, it’s the music scene. So we would certainly be going somewhere with live music, a night out dancing [Los Globos, Gold Diggers, Bar Lis], and if there’s a good concert that week, then we can do that too! I love going to concerts at the Hollywood Bowl, The Greek Theatre, The Wiltern, The Fonda, and El Rey. I could list out all the venues in the city. I just really enjoy all of them!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to give a Shoutout to my college professor for giving me the assignment of creating a blog, which is how my music blog started. I would also like to thank my family, as they’ve always supported me in everything I do, including this blog, and have always been my biggest fans. Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who’s been part of the blog, to those who reached out to be part of Chabechrod Music, to my readers, and to those who have shared their musical journeys with me.
