We had the good fortune of connecting with Craig Parker Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Craig Parker, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
For me I would say that it’s been the consistency of basic gratitude along with the importance of delivering whatever has been agreed upon. That is my prevailing stance for whatever I do and so at worst tough situations can be converted into wind in my sail by first consciously deciding that this will be my approach and I will enrich the situation the best I can for all involved.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

For me it’s always been about following my instincts. Looking back at it now it seems things just fell into place as it relates to the vast and various projects I have worked on and it’s all been word of mouth situations so things just happened. I admit that I was always interested in facilitating the best I could do in terms of what I contributed to a project and so I’d say that-that approach and some degree of talent was the key.

A funny experience to share. One day a few decades back Alex Van Halen asked me ” Are you a musician? ” and I responded ” Yeah ” he then asked ” Whadya play? ” and I said ” Guitar ”, he then burst out loudly into laughter and said ” Oh great! Just what the world needs… another guitar player… good luck with that! ”.  I wasn’t offended cus he was right. (talk about an oversaturated market place) However his response didn’t detour me. In fact, it motivated me to really pay attention as to what I was trying to contribute. It’s important of course to be authentic but taking responsibility for one’s contributions is also important so as to not clutter up the playing field just because somebody likes to play guitar or whatever.

So meaningful contributions are the intent of course but ultimately it’s the client or the listener who decides if that result is the case.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Take HWY 1 up the coast to Carmel / Monterey Bay and hang and explore that area for some deep enrichment and stop by the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard on the way up if ya can. I’d also suggest taking the chopper over to Catalina Island to explore and hike around a bit on the Trans-Catalina Trail as well as to scuba dive some of the sites over there. Joshua Tree National Park for exploring and climbing on the unique rocks and just living it up enjoying a super starry night and bonfire is another special experience I’d recommend.

Food choices are vast so Alfredo’s Pizza is always on my list (Pico & Hauser) or Chandi for some delish Indian food in West LA or the classics like The Pacific Dining Car near downtown LA or Musso & Frank in Hollywood or Pink’s Hot Dogs for all of you weenie lovers or my wife Maria’s favorite, Shabu shabu in J town.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mentor list is vast and it begins with the people who took me out of foster care & gave me a real shot at Life’s possibilities by adopting me and becoming my Mom & my Dad. Edward Van Halen, Dweezil Zappa, John Gillies, Jack Tempchin, Greg Leisz, Geoff Emerick, Frank Sontag & Dave Alvin are also on my list. ( and so many more )
