We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success is that I have never turned down an opportunity to learn. Consistently learning new skills and learning from new experiences has been the #1 driving force behind my ability to succeed. I believe that experience is one of the best forms of education. To me, there is no better way to learn about something and have a greater understanding of how things work than to experience them first hand. I also believe this is one of the main reasons as to why I may be perceived as a “Yes Man”. I never want to turn down an opportunity to learn and grow. One of the best displays of using experience as education would be to take a look inside of my job history. As someone who danced most of my life and was primarily focused on teaching dance & pursuing my professional career, I have taken on a multitude of jobs that had no relation to my field. I have worked in the food service industry, on the line in an auto manufacturing plant, inside the Emergency Room as a Nurse Aide during Covid, various administrative jobs and many others. Each and every single job opportunity & experience has provided me with invaluable information that has not only made me a better worker, but a better human. To be able to understand various industries, people within these industries, and where they come from has greatly impacted my outlook on how I approach my own work & personal life. I find it difficult to articulate the joy that learning and experiencing new things brings me, but I feel like it translates pretty clearly in who I am as a person.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up, I always believed that my career was to be working as a professional dancer. That stayed true until 2021 when I had a cancer scare that forced me to step away from dancing. Two years prior to this health scare, I was dancing professionally and finally feeling like I “made it”….so my health situation was not ideal. I spent a year and a half away from dance and was face to face with this new reality of what I wanted for myself and what my body was capable of. During the time I spent away from dancing, I really decided to hone in on other skills I acquired adjacent to my dance training… skills such as graphic design, social media management, content creation, video editing, and photography/videography. Ever since 2021, I have completely pivoted my career and not only do I love what I do, I still get to be involved/work in the dance industry like I originally wanted. I may not be dancing, but this feels just as good! Nothing about my journey has been easy but the people I have met and get to work with have made it all worth it. I currently manage numerous social media accounts and create content for high profile companies. I plan to one day open up a Social Media Agency due to such high demand!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always tell whoever comes to visit me to try to stay at least a week. LA is jam packed with so many amazing places to see so being here for less than a week will only limit you! I always recommend trying to do at least one hike while you’re here at either Runyon or Fryman because the views are totally worth it! I’d also recommend visiting the Getty Museum early in the mornings because it is beyond peaceful and quiet up there. If you’re looking for a great breakfast place I would say Sweet Butter on Ventura or The Beachwood Cafe (a Hollywood must). If you’re lucky to be here on a Sunday and any of the famous farmers Markets are happening, you must go! The Melrose Trading Post, Rose Bowl Flea Market or the Brentwood Farmers Market are all worth stopping by. Personally, I believe that your LA trip is incomplete without a trip to the beach. Most people flock to Santa Monica or Venice beach (which are definitely a Los Angeles staple) but Manhattan beach is definitely my all time favourite. A great area to park your car and walk around downtown and then spend your day on the beach. I also love taking people to the Westfield Century City Mall in which is beautiful outdoor mall that has great vibes, shopping, and food but slightly less busy than the Grove or Americana. There are too many hidden gems all around Los Angeles County. From Pasadena, to Noho, to Beverlyhills and beyond, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

To name just one person would simply do a disservice to the community of people that have loved and supported me in all that I do so I will try to acknowledge as many as I can. To start off, my mom has been my biggest fan since the day I was born. Fortunately for me, I grew up having the ultimate idol as my mom who had a decorated career as a figure skater and is living proof that I could achieve any of my own dreams. Her saying to me my whole life has been “hard work pays off” and I can confirm that it is true! My twin brother, sister, and bestfriends have also been catalysts for my success due to their unwavering support for me. As for my husband Patrick, I cannot thank him enough for sticking by me especially when things got hard. My perception of my career 5 years ago is very different from what it is today due to some unfortunate health problems. Patrick has stood by me through every change and tough decision I have had to make which has been one of the main reasons as to why I am able to redefine my idea of success through a career that is different from what I originally had planned for myself. His support through it all is undeniably why I am where I am today. There are so many more people I can honor my thanks to but they surely know who they are as I believe it is important to express gratitude as often as possible.
