We had the good fortune of connecting with Eleni Asimos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eleni, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my business came from a personal need for affordable, quality jewelry. For years I would purchase fashion or costume jewelry but after a few wears I would break out with a reaction to the cheap metals. Even vermeil or plated jewelry would rub off eventually and give me a rash so I would take certain components from my store-bought jewelry and repurpose them with gold filled materials because I found that gold fill is essentially as hypoallergenic as solid gold just without the price tag. After getting compliments from friends and strangers alike of the new pieces I created I decided to branch out onto Etsy with a shop and that eventually grew into the business I have today with my brand being carried in stores nationwide. I realized a hobby could be a business and if I create things that I love and pour my heart and soul into it, others will feel the same.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s been so important for me to create a quality product at an affordable price point so others can tap into that feeling of luxury, knowing their investment will last a lifetime. I use mainly gold filled materials which have significantly higher levels of gold than vermeil or gold plate and is the next best thing to solid gold. It’s been an exciting journey bringing my passion from a hobby to a business without any formal training and with a lot of trial and error along the way. I’ve made some costly mistakes but as my bff says, I’ve been investing in my education to grow a stronger business. I couldn’t have built MissElenious to what it is today without my community of family and friends gladly jumping at the chance to give me advice in their areas of expertise when I need it. I’m forever grateful to them for helping me turn my dream into reality!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s actually a pretty tough question to answer with the changes the pandemic brought on but I feel like the following would be a great start:

Dining: Patio at Sawyer Silverlake
Shopping: Melrose Farmers Market
Activity: Event hosted by MyFlow, a community for women to connect and network while exploring our personal strengths and struggles
Art & Culture: Private art therapy session by @i_kstati_o_ptichkah and a private soundbath meditation by @thevibealchemist

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to recognize my friends and family. Every time I’ve felt like I’m struggling, there has been someone to show encouragement and support which gives me the drive to push harder. My mom helped me understand and grow the backside of the business. My friends have always encouraged my creativity and artistic abilities. My fiancé is always behind the scenes pushing me and setting an amazing example of persistence and dedication. Taylor King of Espionage LA took a chance on me when I was first starting out and sold my pieces in her shop, which gave me the confidence to grow my little hobby into a full fledged business. And all of my customers who make a conscious choice to shop small, tell their friends, come back for more and appreciate the hard work that goes into running a small business.
