We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Smoke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind my success is my faith in God, my resilience, and my team.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel as though I’m a rare breed in today’s era of music. I am almost self-contained. I have the ability to do a lot of things creatively on my own. So much so, I had to learn the art of delegating. It’s also comforting to know that I can fall back on my skill sets anytime I need to. I’ve recorded myself, shot my own videos, put the sets together, choreographed, styled myself, edit videos, write my records, and built my websites. I understand the power of having a team who can work together on creating something fire. I also know from experience that sometimes not everyone show’s up ready to work and contribute positivity and professionalism. My skill sets always come through in the clutch.

I believe my sound is unique. I’ve found a way to blend the “fun” types of beats with interesting messages. I like riding the line of what will and won’t she do. It’s fun for me but I still get to stay true to myself. I am very proud of that. I am proud that I get to share who I am with the world.

I got to where I am professionally by never giving up. I’ve faced a lot of adversity. I always have learned to treat others well even if it doesn’t feel like it’s paying off in the moment. I rely a lot on my faith in God. I try to remember that everything I do is under his watchful eye.

It was not easy getting to where I am today. It took a lot of work for a long time. I overcame challenges by my faith in God and my faith in myself. I’d like to think of myself as a “big picture” thinker. I base a lot of my decisions thinking about what I’d like to see as the end result. I learned not every battle is meant to be fought. Sometimes walking away from issues that don’t contribute to the bigger picture means you’ve protected yourself from a distraction. There are a lot of distractions in my business. I try my best to remove those and focus and the big picture.

I have learned so many lessons along the way.
1. Watch the company you keep.
2. Keep positive people around you.
3. Do not stop.
4. Try your best to give out good energy to everyone you meet.
5. Prepare, prepare, prepare a.k.a. PRACTICE!!!!
6. Learn something new about your craft constantly.
7. Leave it in the hands of the Lord.
8. Make connections! Support other people even if it does nothing for you. Keep up with what your friends are doing. It’s great to offer help.
9. Nourish your body. Failing health is very distracting.
10. Give yourself grace.
11. Don’t lose yourself.

I have more lessons but I will leave it here for today. Haha.

I want the world to know that my brand is super dope.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Haha. I like this question. Well, if my best friend showed up and we had a week to visit all around LA I’m taking them everywhere. First we’re eating one of these places, Tao, Katana, Mainro, Beauty & Essex, Nobu, Catch, and/or Joey’s. Next we are shopping at the Westfield Century City or Beverly Center. Then we are going to hit a few stores on Melrose. The next day we’re going to Malibu, Santa Monica, or Venice beach. It depends on what vibe they want to catch. Each beach is so different to me. We’re going to bring snacks and a little wine (everyone knows I’m a lightweight) and laugh while enjoying the beach. If we choose Venice, Venice Beach has scooters so I’m always down to ride the little scooter alongside the beach. We’ll find a restaurant close by and eat. Haha. I don’t know why y’all asked me this question. Okay now we’re going to Inglewood to catch the black artistic vibes. They have a lot of really cool artists down there. I’m stopping at either Simply Wholesome for vegan or Earle’s on Crenshaw to get me a hot dog. In fact I might go get me one of those today because while answering these questions…. I’m getting hungry. I’m going to stop by the studio on the way back and show them my new music. The next day we’re doing tourist stuff down in Hollywood UNLESS this is NOT their first time being in LA. Hollywood is interesting so I’m going to the wax museum, I’m getting Los Angeles paraphernalia, I’m looking at the walk of fame, etc. Then we’re going to drive to Hart House and eat some vegan fast food and a vegan shake. Moving on to the next day, we’re going museum hopping. All day. I’d like to go from museum to museum. We can stop in between and grab something to eat. I also like the idea of going to an Escape Room. Okay it’s the next day and now we’re going to the theme park ie. Universal Studios, Knott’s Berry Farm, Disneyland, and Six Flags. I’m getting on every roller coaster. PERIODDDDDT. The next day, we’re having brunch and then doing either a rooftop movie or going to a game. The last day I need to relax, I’ve done too much. I’m sleeping in. I’m cooking. We’re watching movie’s at my house. We can have dinner at one of the other restaurants we didn’t choose from night one. I’m probably talking about how we can’t ever do that much stuff in one week again. But I’d plan it the similarly the next time. Haha.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a lot of people that I’d like to give a shout out to. First and foremost, my mother has helped me with my career since she believed in my talent. She has been there from the beginning. I would also like to shoutout my manager Stylzs, I had two managers but one died and she has been there supporting me and helping me as well. I feel like Marc Williams & C-Ray have really helped in shaping me as an artist. They are very supportive of my goals and career. I met them right before I decided to move to L.A. and they took me in like family. I would also like to shout out LazRael Lison who is the first director to out in a TV film! Moshe’ has been very helpful in shaping his honest thoughts and opinions. “B.” in particular has been amazing with helping me reach my goals in my career.
