We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Gilbard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Spencer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I made the decision to get into podcasting because I love talking to people and making them laugh. That’s why I founded LOL Comedy Club as a podcast production company. I believe that people communicating more will create a better world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a podcast called THE FISHBOWL which is a current events and pop culture talk show hosted by myself and featuring a rotating panel of comedians. I was a finalist for the Quill Podcast Awards’ “Innovator of the Year” for my work on that show. There are two seasons available online. I now host a second podcast with my partner, Binx Madden, called Dumbestic Bliss. It’s also a comedy podcast, but we talk about things like fashion, lifestyle & relationships. You can listen to all LOL Comedy Club shows on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Beach – I feel like you have to go to the beach, if you visit LA. Otherwise you will get a horrible impression. The Comedy Store – You have to go see a show at LA’s most historic comedy club. It’s still one of the top clubs in the world, and the place is probably haunted.
Canter’s Deli – What can I say? You’re getting a tour from a Jew. If you’re in NYC you go to Katz’s, and if you’re in LA you go to Canter’s. The Comedy Store of the delicatessen world, Canter’s Deli has got what you need.
Olvera St. – Once upon a time… this is where LA began. It’s now a beautiful outdoor mall and plaza surrounded by historic architecture. You’ve gotta go!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my father Jeffrey Gilbard for inspiring me to start a business and always being my biggest fan.
