Meet Krysta Masciale | Executive Brand Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Krysta Masciale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krysta, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I look at risks like investments in myself. As a born and raised midwestern girl, I never considered myself a risk-taker. I followed the rules, made a plan to climb the corporate ladder and thought that’d be it. At 22, I started to become more terrified of the predictability of my future than the uncertainty of taking a leap in a new direction. Since making the decision to move to Los Angeles, I’ve lived a life of one risk after another. My husband and I do a bit of a dance between who gets to take the giant risk and when. I’m grateful our kids get to experience a household where fear doesn’t rule over creativity and vision.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a branding executive, I find the culture work I get to be a part of to be the most fulfilling. Bringing team members together under a common vision and making sure every voice is heard breathes life into any corporate experience. It’s always a messy process and it wasn’t always easy to dive into the work of uncovering the soul of an organization. This process requires that I hold leaders accountable to behaving in alignment with the words they use in marketing. I’ve had to learn how to modify the way I communicate based on the personalities of colleagues in order to find common ground and create true pathways to evolving a brand’s story.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love being downtown. The art’s district is a great place to spend time because you get to see the grittier parts of the city … the real parts that give context to the success we’ve found on the global stage. I love the street art, historic architecture, taco carts, speakeasies and coffee shops. I also really enjoy the opportunity to drive or hike in the hills and look out over the city on a clear day and grab brunch in mid city at Joans on Third. Before the pandemic, I would likely plan an evening around live music or even enjoy a progressive dinner in studio city off Ventura, starting at Firefly and drinks at Mr O’s or Black Market Liquor.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are too many to count. The work of Brene Brown, Glennon Doyle, Austin Channing Brown, Maya Angelou, Gloria Steinem, John Lewis … all have tremendous impact on my life. The in-person mentor ship both peer and elder has saved me in every phase of my life.
