We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrance Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terrance, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process for starting my business/podcast, “Tap In With God”, came from the the need for humanity to connect with their Creator, God/Jesus Christ. We are all imperfect beings needing a perfect being, so what do you have to lose in connecting with God? And the term “tap in” is slang for communicating/linking with someone. Therefore, I utilized that term to gear it toward us speaking with Jesus Christ in every aspect of our lives.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
“Tap In With God” is a podcast for all topics that’ll help people get close to Jesus. Most podcasts are about one theme, with many other beliefs and strategies. This podcast is strictly about choosing Jesus in every aspect of life. I’m proud of mustering the courage to post about my faith consistently, along with those who join the podcast. I’m excited about how it may impact those who come across the podcast and the seeds it’ll plant.
The creation of the podcast came from attending church/bible studies, watching sermons, and studying scripture. I attended Cerritos College, where I studied Commercial Music, emphasizing musicianship and audio engineering; this experience aids me today with post-production after I record the podcasts. I learned many things about myself while there and overcame many things like disciplining myself, repeated math courses (smh), and music theory (lol). My time at California Baptist University, studying Music for Worship and Ministry, also plays a significant role in this podcast because this is where my spiritual growth in Christ expanded. I learned how to be multi-faceted and creative while being there because they gave me the freedom to do so.
There weren’t many challenges in creating the podcast; it’s just a weekly process of seeking God for a topic, recruiting people to participate with me, and recording/editing videos on my own. I’m ultra-relieved when I finish posting my episodes, and it’s fulfilling to see others share their testimonies that’ll help those who tune in.
I want the world to know that Jesus is available and not too busy for anyone. He is genuinely concerned and desires an intimate relationship with all of us.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were in the city, I would first take them to a Lakers game because I love the Lakers. We’d go to a good ramen restaurant (there are too many good ones to choose one specifically), bomb sushi, Chinese, Mexican, or Jamaican restaurant, any Wingstop, eat at Costco’s for the hotdogs, a Los Angeles music jam-session, walk Hollywood Blvd, watch a Dodger game, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Knott’s Berry Farm, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Venice Beach, San Diego, a good hiking spot, a nice view, any beach, and if we have time, attend a Los Angeles Rams game because I’ve never been to an NFL game. These activities would make a lit week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d first like to thank my Lord and Savior of my soul, Jesus Christ, for working on me day in and out. He is the reason there is any decency in me. I’m thankful for what He has done throughout my life thus far. Secondly, I’d like to thank my wife and helpmate, Sharde Alexander, who inspires me to be a better man and husband daily. She is a remarkable woman of God and a trailblazer. I’d also like to thank my parents, Daryl and Marilyn Alexander, who raised and taught me graciously for twenty-seven years. They are a tremendous example to me and many others. I’d also like to shoutout my loved ones, deceased and alive, who make an impact in my life: Elder Ernest Alexander (my grandfather, the G.O.A.T), Mae Alexander (granny), Veola Cunnigham (granny), Brook Alexander (my favorite drummer & brother), Elder Trent & Lisa Jackson (god-brother & sister), Cedric Jackson (mentor), Trey Richardson (inspiration), and lastly, my spiritual leaders, Bishop Arling & Bobbie Alexander of Shield of Faith (Long Beach).
