We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordi B and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The process of starting my own tattoo business really began after an enlightening trip I took to the Far East. Seeing people there who were trapped in their circumstances, with limited ability to pursue their passions, made me realize how fortunate I was to have the freedom to follow my dreams. That trip sparked an internal shift – I knew I needed to fully commit myself to the art that fulfilled me rather than settle for anything less.
Upon returning home, I made the decision to start dedicating all my time and energy to creating art. My passion has always been painting, and I dove headfirst into that. After honing my skills for a while, I came to understand that making a full-time living solely as a painter would be incredibly difficult. That realization led me to consider merging my artistic talents with the tattoo industry.
It’s been an exciting journey ever since, learning and growing in both painting and tattooing. I’ve been able to turn my creative gifts into fulfilling careers in two realms I’m deeply passionate about. The trip that opened my eyes to how precious this opportunity is also set me on the path to designing the future I wanted. My business stems directly from recognizing my luck in being able to follow my dreams and feeling compelled to make the most of it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is heavily inspired by two of the greatest sources of beauty and strength – women and nature. I find immense inspiration in capturing the resilience, grace, and power within the female spirit and the natural world.
As a tattoo artist, I believe what sets me apart is first and foremost my speed. I’ve gotten some incredulous reactions when people see me complete extraordinarily detailed tattoos in a short time frame. My ability to ink quickly while maintaining exceptional quality is definitely a trademark of mine.
Equally important is the way I connect with my clients. Our sessions together go beyond small talk into much deeper conversations and bonds. I’m extremely proud to have built a community of returning clients who feel seen and heard.
Getting to where I am today has certainly not been easy. It’s required massive dedication through countless hours honing my craft. Being a business owner also comes with challenges, as the onus is entirely on me to market my services and create my own opportunities. But I’ve embraced the personal growth and problem-solving required to turn my art into a thriving career.
The biggest lessons I’ve learned are to believe fiercely in my talents and to approach each obstacle as a chance to improve. I want the world to know that with passion, perseverance and authentic human connection, it’s possible to achieve your wildest creative dreams. My story is a testament to that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To kick things off, we’d start with an immersive virtual reality experience at the Sandbox Arena in Topanga – it’s a really unique way to engage multiple senses.
Next we’d spend a day exploring the sights and flavors of Echo Park. We’d check out some of the indie boutiques and stop for lunch at one of the area’s incredible restaurants like Masa of Echo Park for delicious deep dish pizza.
Griffith Observatory is an LA must-see, despite the parking challenges. We’d go early on a weekday morning to take in those iconic views. The Hollywood Sign is also visible from various hikes in Beachwood Canyon.
I’d be sure to show off some of LA’s mouthwatering vegan fare. The plant-based nachos at Organic Love Cafe are out of this world. Gracias Madre in West Hollywood is another vibrant spot with Mexican cuisine.
Venice Beach is always an entertaining people-watching adventure. We’d check out the unique street performers and funky shops along the boardwalk. Then we’d refuel with smoothies from Moon Juice.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to Christen Wolf, my mentor from TygerWolf Studio in Seattle and Tacoma. Christen was instrumental in encouraging me to only create and tattoo my own original designs. She pushed me to tap into my uniqueness as an artist and truly own my work. Christen provided an incredible foundation for me to grow creatively in my talents.
I’m also hugely appreciative of my mentor Basmir from Wildpear Tattoo Studio (formerly House of Pain) in Greece. Basmir offered guidance and support in developing my distinctive style and voice as a tattoo artist. He challenged me to keep improving my techniques while staying true to my artistic vision.
Both Christen and Basmir saw my potential and invested their time and wisdom to nurture it. Their belief in me gave me the confidence to pursue this unconventional path and become the artist I am today. I could not have reached this point without their invaluable mentorship. They deserve immense credit for helping shape me into the tattoo artist and business owner I am now. I am tremendously grateful for their inspiration along this journey.
