We had the good fortune of connecting with LÉA THE LEOX and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LÉA THE LEOX, how do you think about risk?
The most successful and well known artists and musicians are where they are because they took risks. As a multi-genre artists, I take risks every time I put out a song that is under a different genre our that tests the bounds of what music can be but I believe that’s the only way music can move forward. Pursuing a career as an independent artist is a risk in it self. While working a 9-5, in an office setting, with consistent pay would be a reliable source of income, that’s not what I’m passionate about so I decided to take the risk and follow my dreams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a multi-genre artist/singer-songwriter. I write and record my own music as well as for others. I’m also currently joining Mariah Carey on her Christmas tour as part of the choir. I am most proud of my most recent project, “Purpose” EP. This is my first project that I have released and it is truly a summation of my life experiences at the time that I wrote it and I feel this was my most vulnerable project to date. I think what sets me apart from other artists is my desire to tap into different genres. I don’t believe in being put into a box with any part of my identity, especially with my music. I see my music as an outlet for my emotions and I believe in being authentic with my deliverance. I don’t filter myself with my music and however I am feeling at the moment of writing will be reflected in the deliverance/production. If there is one thing I want the world to know and feel through my music is that I will always stay true to myself, regardless of what the world expects from me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite places in LA involve food and nature. My go to when I need to clear my mind or get some inspiration is to drive through Topanga Canyon or Mulholland where there are overlooks, over seeing the city. For a good night out you can find me at Genghis Cohen in Weho, I love a good bar with dancing situation. For food, my favorite spots are Sol Y Luna out in the valley or Crazy Rockin’ Sushi in Hollywood.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a lot of people that I would love to thank for their support and contribution to my success thus far. Firstly, my family has been so supportive in me and my career. I am incredibly grateful to have parents in the industry who understand the importance of taking risks and pursuing my dreams. Next, I want to shout out my incredible manager Sandra Dib. Her work ethic is incredible and I can’t express how amazing it is to have someone by my side to learn and grow with, who also believes in me. Last but not least, I want to give a BIG shout out to my SaltLick Incubator family. The help and support I have received from the SaltLick community has been one of the biggest contributions to the success of my most recent EP “Purpose”. What they do for independent artists is incredible and they deserve all the praise!
