Meet Nikki LaShae | Actress, Writer, & Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki LaShae and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki, what do you want people to remember about you?
When all is said in done, I just want to leave here, empty. I don’t want to die with any gift left inside of me. I feel the gifts that each one of us hold are meant to be shared with the world. If I keep on the path that I’m on, God-willing, I will be remembered as a human being who contributed great art of performance and literature to the world of cinema and stage. I will be remembered as a human that was active in discussions that move the fabric of art and humanity, forward. I am a Black American woman from Mississippi, grew up with no father, and economically suffering throughout my childhood and teenage years. And I am following the dream that was inside of me, nothing that I had a bridge to based on my background. For whoever finds resonance with me, I want to represent what’s possible.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love stories that most might find challenging. I believe that every character invented comes from potential human expression-no matter how angelic or vile. Sometimes, characters force us to go to difficult places within us, but I rather enjoy it. Maybe all the personal work I’ve done has allowed me that kind of access to the character. I just aim to be as honest as possible and I treasure the nuances of this person that gets to live in my body for a little while.
Where I am now in my career, has been about me doing the work. I just focus on doing the job, well. No matter the circumstance or setting, allowing myself to tell the story despite distraction, has been a great asset along my journey. It has gotten me offers and referrals from people that have taken notice. Moving forward, I’m excited to navigate the world of entertainment as a more vibrant human and centered artist and even I don’t know what’s next but I expect some really good things.
I want the world to know, that I’m still blooming :-). There’s already so much in the pipeline that I’m ready to push out into the world as a content creator, but I’ll continue to evolve as a human and creative and the way that will influence my work, if present day is any clue, will be quite dynamic.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit me in DTLA, I’d take them for a morning walk through the city. There are some really stunning views and some beautiful spaces between buildings and streets that you can only access by foot. Then, I’d take them to one of my favorite coffee shops for a pistachio milk vanilla latte before heading to Sage for a vegan donut. Then we’d eat, walk, and talk around Echo Park that’s nearby. Another day, we would restaurant hop. fun bites at CatchLA in WeHo, pasta at Giorgio Baldi’s in Santa Monica, then finish with mocktails on the rooftop at Perch in DTLA to catch the city views at night. And, of course, we’d have to have a beach day and watch the sunset. The sunset is the most stunning on the west coast. We’ll sprinkle some hiking in there. But, we’d mostly eat our way through LA!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I’ve shared time and space with that have helped me cultivate the version I am today, and each deserve acknowledgement for their contribution. But in this moment in time, it’s my dog, LoFi. He came into my life when I was very depressed and his presence helped to keep me grounded when it was very cloudy in my mind. And ever since, he’s been the most amazing company. He’s very intuitive and attentive and he’s has been the greatest gift!
