Meet Elvira Burgo | Writer and Blogger

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elvira Burgo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elvira, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Working with my website creator, Luis Curet, was the most crucial decision to my success. Luis designed my site and took care of the digital aspect of things, such as broken links, SEO, and brand marketing, allowing me to focus on my writing.
It’s also a relief to know that Luis is a cybersecurity executive who ensures everything is safe. A remarkable trait is how fast he is at getting something done. He’s encouraging and a great communicator. I don’t think I would have been as successful without Luis.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I write children’s stories. At the onset of the pandemic, I asked the big question: What will I do now? And started writing. I love using my imagination to create different characters in various situations. It doesn’t always happen, but my stories often teach a lesson.
I also blog, which is exciting. I get to educate, inspire, and connect with my readers. An added benefit is that the blogging platform offers resources to families.
I’ve worked with children of all backgrounds as a teacher. So, I know about the needs of children and could write blog articles about them. I’m also a mother who knows what it’s like to parent; I write about anything that supports parents. Finally, I collaborate with different organizations.
Here’s a little background.
As a curious and active child, I frequently told stories and carried a book. I also had professors and courses that shaped my thinking, so I got to where I am today because of those experiences.
The process of writing and blogging wasn’t easy, but what made it easier was deciding to do so. Putting myself out into the world took much courage and risk-taking.
I had challenges to overcome, and I still do.
I knew nothing about blogging and had to learn about it. Another challenge is that I’m a people person, so being a hermit is something I had to get used to.
Distractions are also something I have to resist every day. It’s difficult not to use the Internet for research and to answer the phone if it is my children. However, sometimes I silence my phone or put it in another room. So, It isn’t easy to reach me sometimes if I don’t answer the phone.
The lessons…
One of the lessons I learned was to keep going when there are trials. Sometimes, I didn’t write for an extended period because life got in the way, but I knew I had to continue because this was what I wanted to do. I also learned that you can do anything you set your mind to. It may not be easy, but people are willing to help, and many resources are available.
This is what I want the world to know.
Adults and children deserve happiness. Happiness comes in many forms, but one must have a passion for something to live a happy life. This gives meaning and purpose. I want people to understand that lifelong learning begins with reading and learning that is interesting. Finally, children are precious; we should respect and invest in them wisely.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a best friend visit the city for a week, I would take her out for breakfast at Met Her At A Bar and then go to the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, where we would check out the grand library and different art exhibits. We will head to Chrystal Cove in New Port Beach and visit a friend the next day. The beach is clean, with a nice restaurant and a cute shack overlooking the water. I would see the Arboretum as the waterfalls are spectacular, and I would spend the rest of our time exploring new places and eating good food. In-N-Out Burger is a must for fast food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Others deserve recognition in my writing journey, but I want to thank God for everything and the gifts bestowed upon me.
My wonderful husband referred me to Luis, supported me, and proofread my articles. My brother-in-law was fantastic in offering counsel and feedback early on in my blog, as well as my youngest son.
Although busy working on her doctorate, my hardworking daughter is instrumental in editing.
Jordyn Curet, an incredible, talented young actress, gave me my first interview, which made it easier for subsequent ones. Even while young, Jordyn is an excellent example of courage.
