We had the good fortune of connecting with Shih-Wen Lin & Kun-I Chang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shih-Wen & Kun-I, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“The most difficult thing is the decision to act.” As someone with multiple interests who often struggles with decision-making, This quote really resonates with me. Growing up, I was always told not to rush when making decisions. In order to be successful, I was advised to carefully weigh all the pros and cons, taking all the risks into consideration before making a move. However, I ended up not pursuing many things I wanted to do because of the fear that I might not succeed. After working many years on a safe path, the feeling that something is missing grew stronger in me. I found myself longing for change. So, I decided to act on my urge and started a creative studio with my partner. After all, how would I know if I would be successful or not if I didn’t try? Despite facing various challenges now, I am grateful for stepping out of my comfort zones and continuing to grow every day.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Space Rabbit Studio was created out of our passion for telling stories through original characters. Before founding Space Rabbit Studio, my partner, Kun-I, was an animation director, and I worked in the PR & Marketing field. When we met, we were both feeling a bit exhausted at work and wanted to create with our own voices. We began taking on personal projects together, and finally, Space Rabbit Studio was born.

Our diverse backgrounds have helped shape strong teamwork, and our shared love for movies and characters has given Space Rabbit Studio a unique identity. Here, we embrace a variety of media, specializing in animation, illustration, and art toys. Our narratives unfold through the eyes of our original characters. Our main character, Space Rabbit, is a silly, curious, and kind-hearted space explorer who falls in love with Earth and wants to be friends with humans. With the magical power to transform negative energy into positive, Space Rabbit is on a mission to share love and bring smiles through his unique perspective.

The journey of building a new business is not easy. We’ve learned a lot from the numerous mistakes we’ve made along the way. Doing what we love and having the opportunity to work with amazing professionals from different backgrounds has been incredible. Most importantly, our Space Rabbit has helped us build a community of friends and fans. We are truly grateful for all the support and love we’ve received. Hopefully, our silly little bunny will continue to lead us, helping our community grow bigger, stronger, and spreading more love and laughter.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When visiting New York for a week, especially if it’s your first time, we recommend spending the first three days exploring all the popular ‘must-sees.’ For example, have a picnic in Central Park, immerse yourself in the arts at museums, catch some Broadway shows, say hello to the Statue of Liberty, take a stroll along the High Line, and cross the Brooklyn Bridge.

After checking off all the ‘must-sees,’ here are some of our personal favorite recommendations:

Take a day trip and go hiking in upstate NY. We love the Bonticou Crag Trail; after a fun rock scramble challenge, you’ll be rewarded with incredible views of the Hudson Valley.

Rent a Citi Bike or book a tour to see street art in Brooklyn and the Lower East Side in Manhattan. To take a break, you can enjoy the best donut at Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop in Williamsburg or the best chocolate cake at Little Cupcake Bakeshop in Soho.

Take a walk at Gantry Plaza State Park to enjoy beautiful views of the midtown Manhattan skyline, and stop by Takumen for ramen and wings!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to shout out to everyone who has helped and supported us from the first day we founded Space Rabbit Studio until now. Your encouragement and belief in us have been the motivators that kept us moving forward. A special dedication goes to Kun-I’s mother, Yvonne Tai, who passed away two years ago. As an artist herself, she was our number one fan from day one, and her appreciation and support for our work have served as an anchor to our creative journey.
