We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Dye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The values or principles that matter to me most are promoting inclusivity while combating biases. This is why I only showcase brands and products that are inclusive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Early Childhood Educator meaning I teach children ages 3-5 for a low income program within my local county. I overcame many challenges along the way. I am the only man of color who works in the early childhood field for my county, that is out of 100+ employees. The field is predominantly women and I have had to combat sexism, racism, and a variety of other challenges. I overcame these challenges by knowing what my end goal was which was to provide a high quality education for these children that the county labels as “low income” and to just remain strong with my morals. I want the world to know that everyone has the right to be treated equally no matter their gender and that anyone can do whatever job that they want regardless of their gender, sexuality, outward appearance etc… I began my work in the beauty industry by creating looks on my Instagram using my makeup. Along the way a brand noticed me and emailed me to work with them. They asked me to create content using their products that they would in part use on their website. Ever since that I have steadily received work to create content for brands or to just receive products from brands to test and share with my followers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The most fun, interesting, and exciting things to checkout would have to be visiting Joshua Tree (I use to work there as a Early Childhood Educator) and the drive everyday was amazing! The hiking is Joshua Tree and the food is also so good! I would then take them to Palm Springs because the weather is absolutely great year round! Palm Springs also has amazing restaurants, bars and casinos. I then would take them to Laguna Beach which has my favorite pizza place, plus the beaches are amazing. Lastly we would travel to Anaheim to visit Disneyland and my favorite restaurant Irrawaddy which is in Stanton but only a 20min drive from Disneyland. Along the journey to any of these places we would definitely hit up a Sephora because I can just never stay away.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The whole reason for my page stemmed from a topic I learned in school. I took an early childhood education class called Anti-Bias Curriculum, that class teaches educators how to combat biases within the classroom environment. I took what I learned there and applied it to my social networking and I was only able to do this because of the support of my husband. I would always ask his approval before anything got posted and if he liked it, it was posted. He would critique me on lighting techniques or colors and I would fix it. He is the reason that I still post to this day. His approval and support has encouraged me to keep going.
