We had the good fortune of connecting with Praneal Narayan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Praneal, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The Good Karma Org is a non-profit organization with chapters in Los Angeles & San Francisco, CA.
We serve hot fresh meals, water bottles, soft fruits, hydration packets, blankets, tents, tarps, socks (still the #1 need in the unhoused community), hand & foot warmers, clothes, rain ponchos, books, toys, flowers, groceries and anything else in need by the under served communities. Even Covid shots!
All of what we provide is volunteer based. From collecting donations to putting on fundraisers, cooking meals at 7:00am rain or shine, putting on toys drives and working with our community to consistently distribute these items on a weekly basis in LA and a monthly basis in SF.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A proud immigrant to this great country at the age of ten, community service is a great way to contribute back to the country that has given my family the opportunity of betterment.
My parents have been serving meals with the Samartian House of San Mateo for the past 33 years. Without fail, once a month they buy enough groceries to feed 200 people, assemble the cooked meals and then help serve the food to the community.
Being consistent for 33 years is something I wish to replicate. It’s an honor to take this on and continue the tradition. Now, my wife and kids volunteer with Good Karma at the Samaritan House of San Mateo once a month. These values are important to my family unit and I hope that one day, my kids continue the work of serving our community.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Weekend plans. Get in on Friday, we are going to International Smoke in down town SF. It’s a Michael Mina and Ayesha Curry restaurant that serves amazing food. From there we are heading to a concert.
The next day we are heading to the Ferry building for the farmers market. Breakfast there. Then to the night for some ahoooing and lunch. Kick back at oven beach and then get ready for dinner and show at Berber.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Not one person but our fellow Board Members at the The Good Karma. They pour their heart and soul into this work. Their commitment and dedication to the community is unwavering. Whatever comes our way, these folks make it happen rain or shine. Shoutout to all of our friends & family & volunteers that help make this happen week by week, shoutouts to all of out partner organizations such as Liquid IV, Bombas, Hanes, Khalsa Aide & The Joy of Sharing Foundation.
