We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Mar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabrielle, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As an artist, I passionately pursue an artistic career driven by my deep connection to nature, music, and eastern spiritual concepts. My imaginative universe is a rich source of inspiration that fuels my creative process. Through abstract expression, my paintings come to life, brimming with vibrant and positive energy. I strive to capture the essence of memories and emotions in my art, transforming them into unique and captivating moments on canvas. My ultimate goal is to spark meaningful dialogues and stretch the boundaries of imagination through my abstract works. With each brushstroke, I aim to actively infuse positivity and transcend the ordinary, illuminating the world with brightness and upliftment. My art seeks to distill the elements of life and the universe onto canvas, utilizing techniques such as dripping, dropping, and swiping, all guided by the fluidity of acrylic and flashe paints. I draw from calligraphy to infuse dynamic emotions into my creations, fostering an intuitive, liberating, and deeply personal practice. Through this, I hope to create a symphony of colors and forms that invite open discussion and interpretation, serving as a reflection of my gratitude for every moment and my profound love and respect for the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a gestural abstract artist originating from a multilingual and culturally diverse family background, my journey in the art world has been a unique and enriching one. What sets me apart from others is not only my distinctive artistic style but also the profound influence of my multicultural upbringing, which has infused my work with a rich tapestry of global experiences and perspectives. What I am most proud of and excited about is the opportunity to travel around the world and showcase my paintings. It’s a privilege to share my art with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and I hope that my paintings can bring power, light, and hope to those who resonate with my work.

Getting to where I am today professionally was not without its challenges. The path of an artist is often filled with obstacles, but I overcame them through unwavering dedication and a commitment to my craft. I persevered through rejection and self-doubt, continually refining my skills and pushing the boundaries of my creativity. The lessons I’ve learned along the way are invaluable – the importance of resilience, the need to stay true to my artistic vision, and the significance of connecting with my audience on a deeper level.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my art is a reflection of my multicultural background, my passion for gestural abstract expression, and my desire to make a positive impact through creativity. My story is one of transcending boundaries and bridging cultures, and I hope that my art can serve as a universal language that brings people together, fosters understanding, and instills a sense of hope and empowerment in those who experience it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My very first few reads to learn about an artist’s career is Jerry Saltz’s book, “How to Become an Artist” It is a valuable guide that delves into the intricacies of the art world and offers invaluable insights for aspiring artists. This book is a comprehensive resource that not only provides practical advice on honing one’s craft but also navigates the often complex and competitive art industry. Saltz’s wisdom, drawn from his years of experience as a prominent art critic and writer, serves as a beacon for artists seeking to find their way in the creative realm. Through his engaging and candid prose, Saltz encourages artists to embrace their unique voices, take risks, and persevere in the face of challenges. His emphasis on authenticity and the pursuit of creative passion resonates deeply with readers, inspiring them to forge their own artistic paths. “How to Become an Artist” is a must-read for anyone in the art world, offering valuable tools, encouragement, and a roadmap for success. I highly recommend it to artists at all stages of their journey as it provides not only practical guidance but also a profound sense of empowerment and inspiration.
