Meet Kiana Nicole Washington | Actress & Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiana Nicole Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiana Nicole, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
As a young actress, I was always told if there is anything else you would be happy doing in life, pursue that instead, because acting is a tough career path. There is always going to be a lot of rejection and hard times. However, I have always believed that if there is anything that you are passionate about, you should give it your all and never give up! I know that there is nothing that brings me as much joy as performing whether on stage or in front of a camera, so I believe that love for my craft keeps me going and pushes me to never give up no matter have tough it may be. There will be ups and downs for everything in life, but so long as you are learning and growing as a person and artist, it will all be worth it. It’s only a matter of time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an actress for film, television, and commercial, but I actually got my start in music. Growing up, my two sisters and I wrote music with my dad and I developed my love for the arts at a young age. I loved sining and playing instruments through my childhood and then discovered musical theatre in school. I fell in love with the stage and acting in general. As I learned more, I developed a passion for film as well. I went on to study film production and acting and have a huge appreciation for the art of filmmaking! From then on, I have been hooked and haven’t stopped acting and am even creating my own film projects.
I am most proud of my role as Tracy Morris in Linked by Love, the edutainment series following a Black family’s successful experience with kidney disease. (linkedbylovetv.org) I was thrilled to book my first SAG Series Regular role in my first year living in California and am beyond grateful that it was a project with such a great purpose! Another favorite role was as JoAnn Gregory, daughter of Ann Gregory, the first Black woman to play in the national golf championships in the biopic film, Playing Through (playingthroughthemovie.com). This film will actually become available to stream on February 1st so I’m excited!
More recently, I have also started creating my own content on social media. Since I LOVE Boba, I have started new accounts dedicated to making character and movie inspired boba drinks from scratch! So far, I have created a Mean Girls drink, Little Mermaid drink, and Princess Rapunzel drink. I am so excited to develop this new creative journey as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow! Well I actually did create an entire itinerary when my sisters came to visit me in LA and they were exhausted by the end of the week. My favorite place that I took them was San Diego! I absolutely LOVE La Jolla and seeing the seals there. Some other places I took them on their week here was Joshua Tree, Venice Beach, Disney, Universal, and the Griffith Observatory. As far as food goes, I really like sushi, boba, and matcha lattes so Little Tokyo was a must! My favorite matcha spots are Tea Master and Midori Cafe and my must eat spot is Rice & Nori. My favorite boba spot is Boba Cha Cha in Valley Village!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my sisters Kalani Washington and Karena Washington for their love and support throughout all these years of my artistic growth and development. They’ve been with me since day one of my journey and have believed in me the whole time so I could not thank them enough for all the love and encouragement they have given me.
