Meet Albert Navarro | Son, father, husband, tennis coach, business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Albert Navarro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Albert, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has been a big deal for me. When growing up as a young adult, my families, finances depended on me. Then, at the age of 21 life decides to throw a curveball at me.
My younger sister, 20 at the time passes away and shortly after my girlfriend is pregnant.
I was about to become a dad.
I could barely keep up with the finances that my parents had, and my income was supporting about 90% of their household.
Now I had to make a decision between my parents and my new family I was about to start.
I remember my older sister, Elvira advocating, for me at the time. She said to my parents you are only holding Albert back!
Albert is trying to start his own business and also trying to start his family what you are doing is selfish.
I picked my daughter and my new life.
But I just couldn’t shake off what my sister had said to my parents. I felt a lot of weight on my shoulders. I knew I did not want to fail. I wanted my parents to know that my decision was the best decision. I wanted them to be proud of me. The biggest risk of my life.
So 27 years later my wife and I have four beautiful girls.
I own a four unit apartment complex. I own my own home. I have 20 employees and currently running a successful swimming pool company.
All this was by taking a risk!
What should our readers know about your business?
Ocean Pools plastering and maintenance services Inc., is a business partnership between myself and Adan Villagomez . We both started in the POOL industry from Ground Zero. I think that to be successful in any business, you need to fully understand and master your trade.
What I am most proud of is knowing that we have 20 some families that depend on our success and trust that we will pull through.
How I got here? Where are we now? It’s important to know and understand that I am only as good as my staff is. They need me as much as I need them. What sets us apart from other companies? I feel we all make mistakes. After all, we are all human. It’s what you do about that. That sets you apart. Always own up to it. Getting to where we are now was definitely not easy.
It was very challenging. Thank goodness I had an older brother, who believed in my strength and invested in me and wanted my success.
I remember in the beginning, for many years, there was times I would not pay myself because I just couldn’t make payroll. My brother, Javier, Navarro, was there for me. As years go by, you learned how to manage in a smarter way. Know your worth. Know your value. It’s OK to say no! You don’t have to land every job, and some of the best jobs are the ones you don’t land get !
What I would want the world to know about my brand, and my story is that you can succeed! To never give up, no matter what. I would love to inspire a new generation. Lead by example.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend ever came to visit me for a day, I would definitely take advantage of the entire Southbay area and take a drive along the coast. I would first start in Manhattan Beach and go to a local Starbucks to get my day started. Two white Venti chocolate mochas.
The next stop, would be Redondo Beach pier and walk around all their cool stores, and check out the pier.
I would then stop by El burrito Junior, and get two tacos each to snack on.
For my next stop, I would drive to Rat Beach in Rancho, Palos Verdes Peninsula, and enjoy the secluded beach and catch up on old times.
My next stop would be Wayfarers chapel
In Rancho Palos Verdes. I would then head to White point Beach in San Pedro and listen to the wave smash against the rocks at a close distance.
The next stop, would be Korean friendship, Bell and San Pedro, and enjoy the park and scenery overlooking Catalina Island.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Mike Bullock from Discount pool supplies for giving me the opportunity in this company and taking a chance on me at only 18 years old. Talk about a risk taker.! Adam Morley from Paradise Pools is another guy. I truly appreciate and respect. Adam has always been supportive and took the time to talk to me when I first started the remodeling part of the business..
He said “Albert, the entire Southbay area could be yours. You have to want it bad enough and it’s yours for the taking.”.my brother Javier Navarro for helping me in the beginning get my company up and running.
Most importantly, my uncle Alfonso Sanchez,, is another who I am most grateful for my success.
He introduced me to the pool industry, and he believed in me. I remember his words like if it was yesterday. “Albert to make it in the pool industry, you must be dedicated and love to work. Albert, you were born to do this.”.
