Hi Rece, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I embarked on the journey of starting my own business because I’ve always had a desire to do things my own way and stand out from the crowd. The idea of conforming to the traditional structures of a big company never resonated with me. Instead, I wanted the freedom to pursue my passions and create something unique. While this path has its challenges and requires sacrifices, I’m grateful for the opportunity entrepreneurship provides to chart my own course and make a meaningful impact in my own way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the most fulfilling aspects of our business is collaborating with 15 local artists and small businesses to collectively promote and strengthen our brand. This collaborative effort not only benefits the entrepreneurs involved but also fosters community growth and prosperity. Initially, when we established our presence in our small town, I harbored doubts about its viability. However, our swift realization of the community’s need for our offerings affirmed our decision.

Today, our establishment offers an array of enriching experiences to our community, including classes on various crystals and group grounding ceremonies. Our commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment is evident to all who walk through our doors. Additionally, our dedication to offering handmade products sets us apart, with approximately 80% of our inventory being artisan-crafted.

My journey to entrepreneurship was shaped by years of experience in various industries, including fast food and retail. Despite the sacrifices and challenges, the decision to pursue entrepreneurship alongside my husband has been deeply rewarding. While being one’s own boss is undeniably demanding, it also presents numerous opportunities for growth and fulfillment.

Through trial and error, including the closure of a previous store, I’ve gleaned invaluable lessons about resilience, resourcefulness, and discernment. Understanding the importance of diligent research and discerning partnerships has been instrumental in navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship.

The Whispy Gypsy represents more than just a retail outlet; it symbolizes a commitment to community healing through unconventional means. By offering tailored classes and providing a platform for local artists and vendors, we strive to cultivate an environment of holistic well-being and creativity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As an enthusiastic food lover and avid traveler, I find Detroit to be a captivating destination for culinary exploration. Overcoming its past reputation, Detroit has blossomed into a dynamic and picturesque city, offering a diverse range of dining experiences to suit every palate.

Among my favorite spots is Honest John’s, a culinary gem renowned for its irresistible vegan egg sandwich, perfect for satisfying breakfast cravings or late-night indulgences. For those seeking an upscale dining affair, Seva Detroit stands out with its exquisite vegan cuisine and ever-evolving menu, making it an ideal choice for memorable celebrations.

For a truly enchanting drinking experience, Black Salt in Hamtramck captivates with its gothic vintage ambiance and innovative cocktails infused with rituals and spells, creating an unforgettable atmosphere unlike any other.

In addition to its culinary delights, my hometown of Algonac offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including scenic hikes in state parks and leisurely boat rides along the tranquil waters. Nestled in the serene woods, my century-old home provides the perfect backdrop for hosting gatherings and enjoying the company of friends amidst nature’s beauty.

Furthermore, the vibrant spirit of our small town truly shines in the summer months, with a bustling calendar of events such as the weekly music gatherings on the riverfront, lively art fairs, and spirited carnivals. These festivities embody the close-knit community and timeless charm that define our town, making it a cherished haven. In my heart, I am grateful to call Algonac one of the last true small towns in America.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of my husband, Charles Wheeler. His love and encouragement have been the driving force behind my entrepreneurial journey.
