Meet David Awuah | Stylist & Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Awuah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a fashion stylist and creative director rooted in New York, my journey is fueled by a blend of passion, hustle, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. From the streets to the studios, my thought process is all about putting in the work and staying dedicated. As a teen aspiring to work in the fashion industry, I started developing a keen eye for fashion trends, understanding different styles, and cultivating a sense of creativity. I gained experience through internships, assisting established stylists, building a portfolio, and networking within the fashion industry. Continuous learning, staying updated on industry trends, and building a personal brand became my mantra. It’s not just about the grind. It’s about the love—for fashion, for creativity, for the culture. It’s what keeps me motivated, pushing me to push the boundaries and take the risk to start my business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I’m working with clients, I dive deep into their style preferences, body types, and lifestyles, studying every detail to craft looks that are as unique as they are. It’s about combining intuition with strategy, staying ahead of trends while staying true to their individuality. Behind the scenes, I’m constantly hustling—scouring vintage shops, researching emerging designers, and honing my craft through trial and error. Every garment, every accessory is meticulously chosen, a testament to the hours of hard work and dedication that go into each styling session or putting together a campaign.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Sea Thai Restaurant in Williamsburg is my go-to for some seriously tasty Thai food that always hits the spot. When it’s time to kick back and enjoy a well-crafted drink, you’ll find me at Mr. Purple, soaking in the skyline views while sipping on their mixed cocktails. And for those nights when I’m in the mood for rooftop vibes and good company, Moxy Rooftop is where it’s at. With its sleek atmosphere and stunning views, it’s the perfect spot to unwind after a long day. These spots aren’t just places to me—they’re important havens of relaxation and enjoyment in the busy city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve got to give a huge shoutout to my NYC crew, friends, family, and coworkers—they’ve been the wind beneath my wings in this crazy fashion journey. From late-night brainstorming sessions to celebrating victories, their support has been everything. And a special nod to the amazing team at KCD Worldwide—they’ve been like mentors, guiding me through the twists and turns of the industry. And of course, big love to the brands that have believed in my vision and given me the opportunity to do what I love.
